H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Sunday 26 June 2011--The Perfection of Relationship--and--How Can A Dietician Serve Krishna?

bb A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course Sunday 26 June 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: The Perfection of Relationship Uploaded from Sydney, Australia The individual living being exists in a relationship between that which is him and that which is not him. Those who find this relationship painful and want to remove the pain sometimes deny this relationship by stating that the individual self is all that exists and therefore there is no such thing as relationship. They posit a self which exists in an impersonal, formless, relationshipless oneness and imagine that they have become liberated from all the pain of relationship. However, since our very nature is that we desire to live in a state of relationship, relationshiplessness will never satisfy the self. It something like cutting off one's head to cure a headache. So instead of deny relationship to become free from painful relationship, the living being must learn how to have a perfect relationship between himself and that which is not himself. The science of how do to this is called Krishna consciousness. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Loving Relationships Seminar 25 June 2011--Sydney, Australia http://www.backtohome.com/images/2011-Spring/Sydney_Seminar.JPG Answers According to the Vedic Version: Question: How Can A Dietician Serve Krishna? O Gurudeva, please accept my respectful obeisances. I am thankful to you for helping me to get the all those necessary things essential to become a Krishna conscious devotee. I am very very thankful to you that you are helping me to get love and affections of Lord Krishna through your messages. I have read the article How to Practice Krishna Consciousness at Home from the link on www.ultimateselfrealization.com. I have a question. The article explained that a painter should paint for Krishna or a writer should write for Krishna. Gurudeva, I am a dietician by profession. How can I used this in service to Krishna? Chandrika Answer: Teach the Attitude of Gratitude Diet You can teach people how living on a vegetarian diet of foods that are first offered to God before eating is the most beneficial, healthy diet. You can call it the Attitude of Gratitude Diet. Merely thanking God for what we eat is not enough. We should only eat what we have first offered to Him. This is the real expression of thanks. And we must only offer Him those things which He will accept. This means that we cannot offer Him anything from the category of meat, fish, and eggs. It's a fact that when we practice and attitude of gratitude in all of our activities that this elevates us to a healthier, happier life. You should present this diet based on all arguments: ecological, economic, health, ethical, and spiritual. Kindly consult the Higher Taste cookbook for detailed answers on how this diet of food offered to God is superior. Bhakta Chris, New York, USA: Radhanath Swami Meets President Obama

From RadhanathSwami.com

On June 13, 2011 Radhanath Swami was invited to meet with the President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama at an event in Miami Florida. Radhanath Swami was grateful to accept the invitation on behalf of his beloved Guru, Srila Prabhupada and dedicated the meeting to his beloved Godbrother Bhakti Tirtha Swami. The President and the Swami had a beautiful, heartfelt talk for several minutes.

It is special that last year Radhanath Swami was invited to meet with the President of India, Ms. Pratibha Patil. We feel that the two meetings signal an auspicious spiritual connection between the United States of America and Mother India.

Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: Contraception is demoniac

Then as far as dama (self-control) is concerned, it is not only meant for other orders of religious society, but is especially meant for the householder. Although he has a wife, a householder should not use his senses for sex life unnecessarily. There are restrictions for the householders even in sex life, which should only be engaged in for the propagation of children. If he does not require children, he should not enjoy sex life with his wife. Modern society enjoys sex life with contraceptive methods or more abominable methods to avoid the responsibility of children. This is not in the transcendental quality, but is demoniac. If anyone, even if he is a householder, wants to make progress in spiritual life, he must control his sex life and should not beget a child without the purpose of serving Krsna. If he is able to beget children who will be in Krsna consciousness, one can produce hundreds of children, but without this capacity one should not indulge only for sense pleasure.

Subhavilasa das ACBSP, Toronto, CA: Honouring the Disappearance day of Sri Srivasa Pandita

Picture
Today is the disappearance day of Sri Srivasa Pandita and here are a few glories of Srivasa Pandita.

1. He is jiva-tattva or the marginal potency of Sri Krsna.
2. He appears on earth as suddha bhakta or unalloyed devotee of Lord Caitanya.
3. He is the perfect brahmana Vaisnava, and the foremost devotee of the Lord.
4. He was an accomplished kirtana leader. Every year at Rathayatra he would lead one of the kirtana parties for the pleasure of Lord Caitanya.
5.Lord Gauranga showed His divine form to all His eternal associates in Srivasa's angam.
6.The house of Srivasa Pandit served as the headquarters of Gauranga's sankirtana movement. It was here that daily Bhagavatam classes, nightly kirtans, and many confidential Vraja pastimes of Lord Gauranga occurred.
7.He dedicated all His energy to the Lord's Hari-Nama Sankirtana movement.
8.He surrendered his mind, body, friends, family, and possessions to Lord Gaura's service.
9.He knew no other gods or goddesses.
10.He maintained his family not because they were his relatives but because they were Sri Caitanya's loving servants.

On March 26th the blog post was about Sri Srivasa Pandita's apperance day. In that post we shared the story of "Khol Banga Danga" where the Muslim Kazi broke the mrdanga in Sri Srinavasa's  house and tried to stop Harinam sankirtan. It showed the potency of sankirtan where harinam could not be stopped but rather with Mahaprabhu's mercy the Muslim Kazi turned into a devotee.

Today we are going to share another story that took place in Sri Srinivasa's house...

One evening, Sri Gaurasundara, accompanied by His associates, was engaged in chanting and dancing at the house of Srivasa Thakura when one of Srivas Thakur's sons passed away after having suffered the effects of some disease.

Within the inner apartment of his house, the women began to wail in lamentation at the boy's untimely death. Srivasa Pandita, who was outside in the courtyard, understood some tragedy must have taken place.
He quickly entered the house only to find that his son had passed on to the next world. As he was a very grave devotee and completely conversant in the science of the Absolute Truth, he was able to console the women in their grief.   "You are all aware of Krsna's glories, so please restrain yourselves and don't cry. Whoever during his last moment hears the Lord's Holy Name, even though he might be the greatest sinner, attains Krsna's abode. And that incomparably wonderful Lord, He whose glories are sung by all His servants up to and including Lord Brahma, is now personally dancing in the courtyard of your house.

"This moment is so auspicious that it is sure this boy has successfully completed his journey from this world. Is there anything to be lamented at in this? His good fortune is completely assured. I can understand that whatever part I have played in this is also crowned with success."
He concluded by telling them, "If you can't control your emotions because of your family affection to the boy, then at least don't cry now, you can cry later. The Supreme Lord of Gokula Himself, Sri Gaurasundara, is performing sankirtana accompanied by His devotees in this house. If, due to your crying, the happiness that He is experiencing from dancing in ecstasy during sankirtana is disturbed, then I will just this minute jump into the Ganges and thus give up my own life."

"Not a blade of grass moves unless by Krsna's will. To see in this happiness or distress, or knowledge or ignorance is simply imagination. Know that whatever Krsna wills is good, and thus, giving up your own selfish desires, become free from confusion and unnecessary botheration. Krsna is giving and Krsna is taking away, and it is Krsna alone Who is maintaining everyone. Someone He protects and someone He destroys, all according to His will. If someone contemplates something contrary to Krsna's will, then as a result of His desire He only get torment. Giving up all lamentation, simply hear Krsna's name, and thus pass through all difficulties feeling great happiness. Then your desires will actually be fulfilled.'

Having given all of these instructions to those present, Srivasa again went outside to join Mahaprabhu in ecstatic chanting and dancing. The women, leaving the dead body, came to hear the kirtan of Mahaprabhu. And so Mahaprabhu continued His chanting until the middle of the night.

When everyone was at last leaving to take rest, Mahaprabhu spoke. "Today My mind is feeling some tribulation. I think some sad event has occurred in Srivasa's house."

The pandit replied, "What possible unhappiness could there be in that person's house where Your divinely blissful countenance is seen?"
"Srivasa! Why wasn't I feeling bliss in kirtana today? What inauspicious thing transpired in your house?"   Srivasa answered, "My Lord, You are Yourself all auspicious. Where You are present, no sorrow can be found anywhere!" But the other devotees informed the Lord that Srivasa's son had passed away.   Hearing this news, Gaura Raya cried out, "Alas, what a tragic event. Why didn't you tell me of this unfortunate news before?"

"I will explain," Srivasa Pandita replied. "I couldn't tolerate disturbing You while You were enjoying sankirtana. If one of my sons dies, what sorrow is there in that for me? If we all die while seeing You, that would actually be a matter of great happiness. On the other hand, if You would have to stop dancing, then perhaps I would have died. My Lord, this was the danger that I feared, and thus I didn't tell you at the time."

Seeing Srivasa Pandita's profound devotion, Sri Gaurasundara said, "How can I give up such company as this?" With tears in His eyes He continued. "Due to love for Me, he didn't even feel lamentation at the death of his son. How will I abandon their companionship?"
The Lord continued to cry, and the devotees began to worry within, having heard Him speak of leaving them.   Thereafter Mahaprabhu came to where the dead body of the infant was lying. Touching it, He called, "Boy! Why are you going away and leaving Srivasa Pandita?"

The life of the dead child returned at the touch of Mahaprabhu's hand. After offering obeisances to the Lord, he replied, "O Prabhu! Whatever You ordain is absolute. No one can do anything but what is sanctioned by You. As many days as I was destined to remain here, that many days I have stayed. Now that my time has elapsed, I have proceeded to leave.
"My Lord, I have taken birth and died repeatedly. But this time, at the time of death, I passed away quite happily, having taken darsana of Your beautiful face."

After saying this, the child became silent. Sri Gauranga Raya thus enjoyed a kind of transcendental sport. Having heard the uncommon words of the dead child, the devotees floated in the ocean of bliss. Srivasa Pandita, along with his family members, then fell at the lotus feet of Sri Gaursundara and cried in ecstatic love.

Mahaprabhu then told him, "Since Myself and Nityananda are your two sons, please don't feel any more distress in your mind over what has happened." Hearing these compassionate words of their Lord, the devotees cheers were resounded throughout the heavens.

Proving the statements of sastra, Their Lordships Gaura-Nityananda became deeply indebted to Srivasa due to his great love for and service to Them.

[To borrow further from our March post...]
.
shri-krishna-caitanya prabhu nityananda shri-advaita gadadhara shrivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda

So many times a day as we take the Pancha Tattva mantra we take the name of Sri Srivasa Pandita. He is sometimes referred to as "bhataakhya" since he is the purest of devotees. Such purity that Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu revealed His 4 hand form complete with conch, disc, club and lotus flower to Srivasa Pandita in his house.

Jaya Shrivasadi!

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: ARE YOU STUCK?

1. Are you stuck with your chanting?
2. Are you stuck with your reading?
3. Are you stuck with getting up early?
4. Are you stuck with a relationship with your family member?
5. Are you stuck with your habits?
6. Are you stuck with your self confidence?
7. Are you stuck with being negative?
8. Are you stuck with expressing yourself?
9. Are you stuck with using your talents?
10. Are you stuck with your finances?

If any of these applies to you, then Gita Coaching can help you get unstuck – at no charge!

Why would I do that?

Because I think Krsna devotees are rare and special people and it is my honor to assist them on their precious journey back to Godhead.

The top four reasons for stagnation, in my experience, are the following:
1. Not incorporating growth thinking into everything you do in life
2. Not measuring, monitoring, comparing, or quantifying your results
3. Not having the detailed personal strategic plan with specific performance growth expectations
4. Not knowing how to set appropriate, specific goals

If your life is stuck in any area, the Gita Coaching process can help you to get unstuck.

With Gita Coaching, you’ll see more options, opportunities, and possibilities that weren’t evident in the past.

With Gita Coaching, you’ll make a highly specific action plan to reach high levels of growth in all areas.

Chances are that in hard times, you won’t even know the exacts problems you are struggling with. You might not even be able to put the problems you’re facing into words, let alone find solutions. So if you can get clarity about what problems you’re confronting and trying to solve, you can become a master at solving those problems. And if you do, rich rewards await you.

With Gita Coaching, you can gain clarity about all of the factors that affect your life, and you can realize none of them are insurmountable. In fact, the vast majority can be improved.

By gaining a fresh perspective with the Bhagavad Gita lenses, you can discover the secret wealth of a seemingly bad or mediocre life.

ISKCON News.com: European Team Grapples with ISKCON's Reputation

By Kancana-vali Dasi for ISKCON News on 25 Jun 2011

One interesting point that came out was that in organizational development, as in any development, it is not having problems per se that is the problem. Rather it is how we deal with our problems that is important. This ability to be self-reflective and self-correctional indicates the maturity of any organization.

ISKCON News.com: Sanskrit Is ‘Cool'

By Visnupriya Bhandaram for The Hindu on 25 Jun 2011

Generation Y is finding new ways of reaching for its roots. Sanskrit is probably one of the most structured languages, and that makes learning many present-day languages so much easier. Even if Sanskrit is still not considered as hep or stylish as French or German, the trend is definitely catching on.

Madhavendra Puri, New Govardhana, AU: London Rathayatra 2011 (Travelling from Radhadesh)

We had a whole weekend scheduled for prasadam distribution and bhajans at a Bonsai Fair in Brussels.  After the first day, we realized that bonsais are exceptionally small plants and they draw exceptionally small crowds.  We were exhausted, on our drive home, because we had to wake up extra early for the event, and had to stay up the night before for some time.  While I was dosed off in the car, Lalita suggested “let’s just go to London Rathayatra instead?”  When we arrived back in Radhadesh, Kunti and Visvambar turned their heads from the front seat; “who wants to go to London tomorrow?!”

We unloaded the van and packed our things.  By the time we were done, we had an action plan.  We woke up early the next morning and were off on our journey before mangala-arati.  The morning sun seemed to glide along with us, as we traveled through France towards the sea boarder.  The ferry ride went quick; we assumed horizontal positions the whole while and then rushed back into the car.

Visvambar handed the wheel over to me; now we were driving on the left side of the road, my side of the road (of course it was still a new experience because it was a European car).  London traffic was painfully slow and we were anxious to be there on time for the parade.  We soon saw the back of what looked like a rathayatra parade, and there were many Indians in traditional dress.  We temporarily pulled up and asked one gentleman what the commotion was.  They told us it was an opening of a new Hindu temple.  We praised our luck for not parking and thinking this was the parade (we were close and we didn’t have full faith in our GPS so it was easy to presume this was the right place).

Eventually we found some underground parking around Hyde Park, the right place to be.  We walked down what seemed to be an endless hallway, in the parking complex, and came out on one end of the massive fields of Hyde Park.  Soon we found some local devotees and they pointed us in the right direction.  We rushed our way across the park and made it just in time, as the chariots began their decent down the streets of London.

Visvambara and I dropped to the wet street to pay our obeisances to the Lordships.  We merged into the parade and began greeting many friends.  While we were caught up in the frolic, the reality of London came crashing down.  Rain and cold winds soon engulfed the parade but no one folded in their enthusiasm.

We made our ways to the front of the parade.  On the way, we saw a few familiar faces from Bhaktivedanta College – teachers (Gopinathacarya Prabhu and Kripamoya Prabhu) and students (Lucy and Gayatri).  Soon we were in flocks of our good friends, from all sides of the globe.  I was starting to see many faces that were familiar from HH Indradyumna Swami’s tours.  At that point, I dived deep into one of the kirtanas.  HH Kadamba Kanana Swami was in the midst of it, as well as many of my good friends.  I danced away with Gaura Hari, Gopa Kumara and Caitanya Vallabha Prabhus.  I hadn’t felt this alive (despite our complete exhaustion) in such a long time.  It really made me feel that the experience of Krsna consciousness truly grows in the association of devotees, increasing in sensation the longer you share it together.

Visvambar and I ran around to pull all the carts, just before the finish line, and then we merged into the madness.  There were dramas, dances and all sorts of other stage presentations.  There were also countless other displays, which were scattered all around Trafalgar Square.  We flocked in masses of longtime friends, catching up with all those we missed on our last visit.  I spent a long time with my old friend Sanatan, catching up on a few missed years.  It was still bitter cold and many devotees were breaking their nirjala fast simply to keep warm.  We took warmth in numbers and hearty conversation, keeping out of the nip of the freeze.

We were soon beckoned to Soho St temple, due to the weather and the time.  We made our ways there and Radha Londonisvara seemed to call us upstairs to see them.  We gazed at their glorious forms for a short time and then had to rush back to our nighttime ferry.

The load of the day began to set in, as we waited in the car for our ferry to port.  We made it back to Radhadesh approximately twenty four hours from the time we left.  It was hot showers and bed for most of us, while the rest of the devotees mingled into the temple for mangala-arati.  We felt truly blessed to have seen the forms of Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra on that auspicious day and also to see so many devotees, basking under the same merciful gaze.  London Rathayatra 2011 may not have been the warmest but it certainly lost no magic due to external circumstance.  Physically the body struggles for some time after such an adventure but the heart is permanently changed.

New Vrndavan, USA: Gopal’s Garden’s Homeschool Co-op’s End-of-year Celebration

On June 17, Gopal’s Garden Homeschool Co-op held its end-of-the-year celebration.  “This year we had five full-time students in grades 1, 2 and 3,” said Ruci devi dasi, tutor at Gopal’s Garden.  “Next year, we will be expanding.  We will have at least nine students, and possibly more.”

Gopal’s Garden will also be expanding its teaching staff for the 2011 – 2012 school year.  New Vrindaban will welcome back Lila Suka devi dasi as an additional full-time tutor.

“Lila Suka and I were teachers at New Vrindaban’s former Nandagram School, which had a K standing (a religious school) from the state of West Virginia. And during the last ten years of the school’s existence, we ran it together as co-principals. Nandagram School ceased to function in 1999,” said Ruci.  “Although Lila Suka moved to the Pittsburgh area shortly after the school closed, she has always visited New Vrindaban frequently.  The parents and children at Gopal’s Garden all know Lila Suka and everyone is excited to have her back.”

Gopal’s Garden is a safe place for children to receive a Krishna conscious education.  This year, the students memorized 25 Bhagavad-Gita verses in Sanskrit as well as their English translations.

At the same time, the students receive a well-rounded education in secular subjects including math and geography.  Moreover, this past year, the students spent at least one hour each day on reading and another hour on writing.  At the end-of-the-year celebration, each student received a spiral-bound book with his or her writing inside.  “The students are all now self-published authors,” said Ruci.  “They went through all the steps of publication including revising, editing, and formatting their books.  It was a vey productive year, and next year is set to be even better.”

An organizational meeting and registration for the 2011 — 2012 school year will take place at the end of July.  For more information regarding Gopal’s Garden Homeschool Co-op, please contact story108@juno.com or call 304-845-6840.

Japa Group: Soft And Peaceful

Hare Krsna my dear devotees, I hope you have had a nice week....full of nice realisations on spiritual life.

Here in Brazil is holiday and we rest and dedicate more time to associate with devotees and the Lord through chanting. I went to the park and chanted looking at the trees....nature, and I could realise how perfect is the Lord's creation. I focused my mind on the Holy names and embraced the sound vibration. The rounds sounded soft and peaceful - it was great.

Wish you all can have nice time with the Lord chanting His holy names.

your servant,

Aruna devi

Madhava Ghosh dasa, New Vrndavan, USA: Green Jobs Are Real: German and American Solar Industry Both Employ More People Than U.S. Steel Production

While the US gets left in the dust as Japan, Germany, Spain and Italy all have more installed solar  photovoltaic energy than the US  and China is all in on solar manufacturing, conservative US politicians, the running dogs of the dirty energy industry (fossil fuels) argue about light bulbs, say solar ” isn’t there yet” and green jobs don’t exist.

Meanwhile reality begs to differ.  See the article below from Climate Progress.

Washington, D.C., United States – With roughly 93,500 direct and indirect jobs, the American solar industry now employs about 9,200 more workers than the U.S. steel production sector, according to 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics. The American steel industry has historically been a symbol of the country’s industrial might and economic prosperity. But today, the solar industry has the potential to overtake that image as we build a new, clean-energy economy.

Last week, Germany’s economic development agency announced similarly big news: There are now more than 100,000 workers employed in the German solar PV industry alone. Why is that so significant? The U.S. figures take into account solar jobs in PV, solar hot water and concentrating solar power; Germany is only factoring in solar PV.

And as a reader over at Clean Technica observed: “The US has about 312 million people while Germany has 82 million, about 25% as many people…. That makes the German solar industry more than four times as large an employer than US steel based on country size.”

A couple words of caution: These figures are comparing solar manufacturing, sales and installation to steel production alone. If one were to factor in products made from steel, the industry would be up around 160,000 workers.

With that said, the solar industry is just getting started here in America. Solar is a high-growth industry with the potential to create millions more jobs in a diverse range of sectors; while still an extraordinarily important industry, steel is not.

Rhone Resch, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association, explains the significance:

Whether it is construction contractors, plumbers, electricians, assembly-line workers or even lawyers and accountants, solar is creating new opportunities at a time when so many Americans are looking for some good news on the job front. In just three short years, the solar industry has grown from a small start-up to an industry that now employs more Americans than U.S. steel production.

Yet, even with such a big milestone for the U.S. economy, political leaders like Louisiana Representative John Fleming are questioning the “so-called green jobs that we’re yet to see produced.”

The bigger question for Mr. Fleming and other doubters is: Which curve do you want to place your bets on?

The continued growth in U.S. solar?

Or the uncertain future for U.S. steel? (The black line represents the U.S. and the red line is China.) Sadly, without leadership on a long-term renewable energy policy, the split between America and China below may just play out in the solar industry as well.

It is special that last year Radhanath Swami was invited to meet with the President of India, Ms. Pratibha Patil. We feel that the two meetings signal an auspicious spiritual connection between the United States of America and Mother India.

Manoj, Melbourne, AU: 208. Srila Prabhupad Lecture 2 : Be Obedient and Be safe.

Below is today’s short summary of Prabhupad’s lecture I listened to :
SB 7.9.9
Mayapur March 1977

Prahalad Maharaj continued: One may possess wealth, an aristocratic family, beauty, austerity, education, sensory expertise, luster, influence, physical strength, diligence, intelligence and mystic yogic power, but I think that even by all these qualifications one cannot satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead. However, one can satisfy the Lord simply by devotional service. Gajendra did this, and thus the Lord was satisfied with him.

Nobody can captivate Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead through their material possessions such as beauty, education, austerity, mystical power, manpower etc. Krishna is atma-ram. He is self-sufficient and self-satisfied. He is not poor. Yet He wants everyone to be obedient to Him and to love Him. This is Bhakti. Bhakti means to serve Krishna. You can see this relationship and expectations between a parent with their child also.

We must not waste any time in some other occupation but on the inquiry on life. We must always be motivated to serve Krishna. Real devotional service is activity. And the best activity is to preach the glories of the Supreme. Our ISKCON movement is based on practical activity. In whatever position you are, you can serve Krishna. Service itself is learning and we need not undertake separate learning before you start bhakti.

While preaching the glories of the Supreme, there will always be obstacles and oppositions. And with those who oppose, we must fight them to our best ability. Even if you lose the battle, Krishna still accepts. For Him, it’s the work that matters. In any difficulty, one’s devotional activity should not stop. You can even offer Krishna, a fruit, a leaf or some water. Bhakti is the necessity. Not the extravagant setting. Krishna does not say that you have to be liberated to serve Him. He accepts your current situation. The moment you serve him with Bhakti you have already achieved liberation immediately.

In this material world, we accrue so many sinful reactions. Everyday you kill so many living entities by walking, drinking etc. But when you are in devotional life, you are not affected by the reactions of those inevitable sinful activities. Dedicate your life completely for Krishna Consciousness and you will be safe.
