H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Monday 27 June 2011--Krishnize the World or Die Trying--and--Krishna Conscious Expectations

bb A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course Monday 27 June 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: Krishnize the World or Die Trying Uploaded from Sydney, Australia My ongoing meditation is that we must either make the entire world Krishna conscious, or die trying to make the entire world Krishna conscious. These are the only two options. There is no third option because without Krishna consciousness nobody can be happy. Will we succeed? The odds are stacked heavily against us. But there is one thing we can sure of. Lord Krishna will be greatly pleased with our endeavor, and when Krishna is pleased with us our lives are perfect. Therefore let us strive with full determination, enthusiasm, patience, and intelligence to make the entire world Krishna up until our last dying breaths. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Answers According to the Vedic Version: Question: Krishna Conscious Expectations It is said that expectation leads to frustation. I want to know about expectation and hopes in the context of Krishna consciousness. What hopes and expectations should I keep with my practice of Krishna consciousness. Thanks, your servant, Nikhil S. Answer: Always Expect Krishna's Mercy As long as you places your hopes or expectations in material things, it is sure and certain that you will be disappointed. So instead you should place your hopes and expectations fully with Krishna that if you fully surrender unto Him He will surely bless you with His unlimited mercy. Of this there is no doubt Sankarshan Das Adhikari Transcendental Resources: Receive the Special Blessings of Krishna Now you too can render the greatest service to the suffering humanity and attract the all-auspicious blessings of Lord Sri Krishna upon yourself and your family by assisting our mission. Australian News: New Gokula News bulletin ,June 2011

Dear devotees , welcome to the winter edition of New Gokula news.

Lord Chaitanya’s increasing waves of love of Godhead are impacting the darkened corners of the material world , progressively fulfilling His desire to mercifully bestow wonderful benediction on all fallen souls. Recently the waves of inundation were perceived in a more gross manifestation of a thousand mls of rainfall. The dam is now FULL.

As we write ,Anantasesha and Laxman prabhus are readying Tulasi’s new house for the transfer of Tulsi devi from Anantasesha’s home. Anantasesha is usually on hand at the farm to show visitors around and answer questions about Tulasi care , (among other areas of interest). Since Bhakti Visrambha Madhava Swami (Tulasi Maharaja) is now an annual visitor to New Gokula , this attractive and well designed green house for Srimate Tulasidevi will be a great inspiration to all those who attend his wonderful discourses. Stay tuned for upcoming seminar in 2012.

Renovations are also nearing completion on the previous guest cottage ,which now houses devotee staff. Bhakta Bill and AdiPurusa are keen to exercise their practical skills on upcoming projects.

Hare Krishna.

Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: Substance, not sentiment

Anything without substance will not last, so just demonstrate sincerely that we have got solid ground beneath us, not that we have only some sentiment, that's all. Many fanatic spiritual movements have come and gone, but without the flawless philosophy of Krishna, they cannot stand. Therefore I want especially that my books and literature should be distributed profusely. This is our substance, real philosophical information, not some weak sentiments. So try for this, to give all men this Krishna philosophy, and many real devotees will come with us back to Home, back to Godhead.

Devadeva Mirel, Alachua, USA: Weekly Round-up!

Sunday Sunday, the day of rest. Here are 7 posts that caught my eye this week. One is my own! Oh the vanity. Click the pic to get to the source. Enjoy! And do not forget to enter the latest GiveAway! here. It closes tomorrow at 10 AM EST.

Cooking Books shows us that homemade candy floss (cotton candy) can be done. Please don't show this to my kids!

My son is on a coconut kick right now. These Samoan coconut buns baked in a sweet coconut sauce would make him drool. Check out the recipe from King Arthur. Those guys have totally foolproof recipes. I'll let you know how my sourdough starter from them makes out in a couple of weeks ;)

When we visited The Paris Market in Savannah (review coming Monday!), I really wanted one of their French linen cafe aprons. Sadly, they were out. Since then, I've been googling linen aprons and fabric like I was getting paid for it. Sadly, I'm not. But I did discover Beth Rawlinson's fabrics printed on Belgium linen. Now this would make a pretty damn cool cafe apron!

Look who's simple yet brilliant jar labeling idea was featured on Craft Gossip! Thank you.

Here's a little design funny ha-ha by way of Making it Lovely.

I can't decide what's most captivating about this NY Times Great Homes & Destinations Tour. The gorgeous, tactile yet smooth finish of all the concrete or the rich dude chillin' in his un-ironed simple cotton dhoti.

Obviously, I'm not on board for the meat eating. But you know, David Chang. So anyway, I am digging on the style of Lucky Peach, a new food quarterly. Love the irreverence + the manliness. Cooking is such a guy's sport.

Subhavilasa das ACBSP, Toronto, CA: The Story of Yogini Ekadasi (which is today...)

Picture
Yogini Ekadasi Yudhisthira Maharaj said, "Oh Supreme Lord, I have heard the glories of the Nirjala Ekadasi, which occurs during the light fortnight of the month of Jyeshtha (May - June). Now I wish to hear from You about the suddha Ekadasi that occurs during the dark fortnight of the month of Ashadha (June - July). Kindly describe to me all about it in detail, Oh killer of the Madhu demon (Madhusudana)."

The Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna, then replied, "Oh king, I shall indeed tell you about the best of all fasting days, the Ekadasi that comes during the dark part of the month of Ashadha. Famous as Yogini Ekadasi, it removes all kinds of sinful reactions and awards supreme liberation. "Oh best of kings, this Ekadasi delivers people who are drowning in the vast ocean of material existence and transports them to the shore of the spiritual world. In all the three worlds, it is the chief of all sacred fasting days. I shall now reveal this truth to you by narrating a history recounted in the Puranas.

"The king of Alakapuri - Kuvera, the treasurer of the devas (demigods) - was a steadfast devotee of lord Shiva. He employed a servant named Hemamali as his personal gardener. Hemamali, a Yaksha like Kuvera, was very lustfully attracted to his gorgeous wife, Swarupavatii, who had large, enchanting eyes. "Hemamali's daily duty was to visit Manasarovara Lake and bring back flowers for his master, Kuvera, with which he would use them in the puja offerings to lord Shiva. One day, after picking the flowers, Hemamali went to his wife instead of returning directly to his master and fulfilling his duty by bringing the flowers for the puja. Absorbed in loving affairs of a bodily nature with his wife, he forgot to return to the abode of Kuvera. "Oh king, while Hemamali was enjoying with his wife, Kuvera had begun the worship of lord Shiva as normal in his palace and soon discovered that there were no flowers ready to be offered in the midday puja. The lack of such an important item (upachara) angered the great Koshad-yaksha (treasurer of the devas) even more, and he asked a Yaksha messenger, 'Why has dirty-hearted Hemamali not come with the daily offering of flowers? Go find out the exact reason and report back to me in person with your findings.' The Yaksha returned and told Kuvera, 'Oh dear lord, Hemamali has become lost in freely enjoying coitus with his wife.'

"Kuvera became extremely angry when he heard this and at once summoned lowly Hemamali before him. Knowing that he had been remiss and dawdling in his duty and exposed as meditating on his wife's body, Hemamali approached his master in great fear. The gardener first paid his obeisances and then stood before his lord, whose eyes had become red with anger and whose lips trembled in rage. So enraged, Kuvera cried out to Hemamali, 'Oh you sinful rascal! Oh destroyer of religious principles! You are a walking offense to the devas! I therefore curse you to suffer from white leprosy and to become separated from your beloved wife! Only great suffering is deservedly yours! Oh lowborn fool, leave this place immediately and betake yourself to the lower planets to suffer!'

"And so Hemamali fell at once from grace in Alakapuri and became ill with the terrible affliction of white leprosy. He awoke in a dense and fearful forest, where there was nothing to eat or drink. Thus he passed his days in misery, unable to sleep at night due to pain. He suffered in both winter and summer season, but because he continued to worship lord Shiva himself with faith, his consciousness remained purely fixed and steady. Although implicated by great sin and its attendant reactions, he remembered his past life because of his piety.

"After wandering for some time here and there, over mountains and across plains, Hemamali eventually came upon the vast expanse of the Himalayan mountain ranges. There he had the wonderful good fortune to come in contact with the great saintly soul Markandeya Rishi, the best of ascetics, whose duration of life it is said, extends to seven of the days of Brahma.

"Markandeya Rishi was seated peacefully at his Ashrama, looking as effulgent as a second Brahma. Hemamali, feeling very sinful, stood at a distance from the magnificent sage and offered his humble obeisances and choice prayers. Always interested in the welfare of others, Markandeya Rishi saw the leper and called him near, "Oh you, what sort of sinful deeds have you done to earn this dreadful affliction?'

"Hearing this, Hemamali painfully and ashamed replied, 'Dear sir, I am a Yaksha servant of lord Kuvera, and my name is Hemamali. It was my daily service to pick the flowers from the Manasarovara lake for my master's worship of lord Shiva, but one day I was negligent and was late in returning with the offering because I had become overwhelmed with lusty passion for enjoying bodily pleasures with my wife. When my master discovered why I was late, he cursed me in great anger to be as I am before you. Thus I am now bereft of my home, my wife, and my service. But fortunately I have come upon you, and now I hope to receive from you an auspicious benediction, for I know that devotees such as you are as merciful as the Supreme Lord (Bhakta Vatsala) and always carry the interest of others uppermost in their hearts. That is their - your nature. Oh best of sages, please help me!'

"Softhearted Markandeya Rishi replied, 'Because you have told me the truth, I shall tell you about a fast day that will benefit you greatly. If you fast on the Ekadasi that comes during the dark fortnight of the month of Ashadha, you will surely be freed of this terrible curse.'

Hemamali fell to the ground in complete gratitude and offered him his humble obeisances again and again. But Markandeya Rishi stood there and lifted poor Hemamali to his feet, filling him with inexpressible happiness.

"Thus, as the sage had instructed him, Hemamali dutifully observed the Ekadasi fast, and by its influence he again became a handsome Yaksha. Then he returned home, where he lived very happily with his wife."

Lord Sri Krishna concluded, "So, you can readily see, Oh Yudhishthira that fasting on Yogini Ekadasi is very powerful and auspicious. Whatever merit one obtains by feeding eighty-eight thousand brahmins is also obtained simply by observing a strict fast on Yogini Ekadasi. For one who fasts on this sacred Ekadasi, she (Ekadasi Devi), destroys heaps of past sinful reactions and makes him most pious. Oh King, thus I have explained to you the purity of Yogini Ekadasi."

Thus ends the narration of the glories of Ashadha-krishna Ekadasii, or Yogini Ekadasi, from the Brahma-vaivarta Purana.

Jaya Kesava Das, USA: From a Love of God Perspective.. free write.

On Farming and stuff...

I overhear and sometimes take part in discussions on the need of developing farm communities so that we can be well sustained in times to come. Mostly the energy in such conversations become tense because most of us don't feel ready to move into that sort of space and change our lifestyles. It takes a lot of work. There's often complaint of it not being practical, or not matching one's nature, or too complicated.
Over the last few weeks, as I prepare a seminar on making new devotees, this topic pops up many times. The reason is not just to feed people and give them a nice place to stay in the country away from the cities, but more on the question of quality. Quality breeds quality. The vedic purpose for samskaras is to produce quality people; quality living, and quality development of one's dormant relationship with Krsna. Regardless of how hard it may be, the quality work we put into something will ensure a quality result.
Evert parent wants the best for their child, and for that, they insure them, send them to carefully picked schools, scrutinize their association, worry about them, etc etc. Love is something that forces a person to act on a quality platform. I've even heard that Mother Yashoda has a special breed of cows that are fed special grass for producing the best milk which will be churned into butter for Krsna. So if we think of Krsna as our child, and we want to give him the best, knowing well that giving Krsna the best in any situation will mean, ultimately, the best for us, then we should consider farming and cow protection a means for giving the best to Krsna. This requires contemplation; and contemplation on service to Krsna means contemplation on Krsna. So from a love of God perspective we should have farms. We can learn from those who have proper farms, regardless if they happen to be devotees or not. When we begin to express our care for Krsna in this way, I think we can develop deep affection for Krsna, which also means for Krsna's devotees. Would I rather give Krsna, my son in the form of the deity, fresh milk from the cow, or milk bought from the store; tomatoes, potatoes or whatever fruits and vegetables bought with harmful chemicals sprayed on them, or one picked from the garden? And as far as hard work is concerned, would I rather work hard for eternal purposes, or for temporary needs? Remember, Krsna lives in a village, not in a sky scraper town. Wouldn't it be nice if we can prepare ourselves for life there, by practicing here? OK, you live in the city, and according to your psycho-physical nature you cannot live on a farm; I suggest supporting a farm, or those who wish to develop one. After all isn't it a duty thing for those who hold houses? And you can come on weekends to the beautiful farm, get your vegetables, get a peace of mind from the city, and show the example for those who have similar aspirations.
Not an essay, just a few thoughts in my mind put on paper.

One more thing before I go... Our Spiritual Master asked for it. Isn't it said somewhere, someplace, in some verse, that by satisfying the Spiritual Master, one satisfies Krsna? And who does it benefit? Us. No one but us. So basically we are becoming lackadaisical in our own self realization and growth.

Oh Oh Oh.. and...

It doesn't have to be some huge thing. Start simple, start small. But start.

Although all human beings by their very nature believe in God, if they learn duplicitous logic through bad association from childhood, they gradually become overcome by that bad influence. The result is that they start to disbelieve in the existence of the Lord. That of course is their loss – it is no loss for the Lord.

Manoj, Melbourne, AU: 209. Srila Prabhupad Lecture 3 : The Art of Living

This is today’s summary of Prabhupad’s lecture.
SB 7.9.8 : 2 Feb 1977 : Mayapur

Prahlad Maharaj prayed: How is it possible for me, who have been born in a family of asuras, to offer suitable prayers to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead? Even until now, all the demigods, headed by Lord Brahma, and all the saintly persons, could not satisfy the Lord by streams of excellent words, although such persons are very qualified, being in the mode of goodness. Then what is to be said of me? I am not at all qualified.

“Ugra-Jateh” means a demoniac family…one situated deeply in the mode of passion. As we know, there are 3 gunas – the mode of goodness, the mode of passion and the mode of ignorance. Our mind which has the quality of accepting and rejecting, jumps from one mode to another. And in this way, the living entity gets one mentality over another. At the time of death, the predominating mode will determine the type of new body the soul should acquire. This is how the transmigration of the soul occurs. So, the real art of living, is to train up our mind suitably for the time of death. If one thinks of Krsna at the time of departing one’s body then such a person is safe otherwise there is room for accidents.

Always practice fixing your mind on the lotus feet of Krsna. This is Krishna Consciousness. And we can be perfect in our endeavours by following great authorities (mahajans) who are rich in their devotion to the Lord. They are great and rich because they are devotees and Krishna Consciousness is meant only for great personalities.

A vaishnava, a devotee is always meek and humble. And to show this quality in devotees, the Supreme Lord Himself takes care of the devotees. Sanatana Goswami did not even enter the temple of Lord Jagannath but the Lord Himself came to see him everyday ! Sanatan Goswami was thinking that he is not at all suitable to approach the Lord because he lacked the proper qualification. Haridas Thakur did not want to disturb the priests and he did not enter the temple premises. Here we can see that Prahalad Maharaj also has this quality of humility. He feels that since he is born of a demoniac family, he does not have the qualification to understand the Lord. But the Lord immediately placed His hands on the little boy, pacifying and blessing him.

So, we must be confident in our endeavours in Krishna Consciousness. Although there will be inconvenience, obstacles, objections and trouble, we must bear them all and keep our faith in the Lord. Krishna also gives us this advice to go on with your duty. Go on with your Krishna Consciousness.

Kurma dasa, AU: Risotto Primo

Last night I cooked a risotto of the dryish-variety, with tomatoes and some garden greens, along with a few pieces of golden pan-fried panir cheese. It was very tasty and looked spectacular.

tomato risotto:

The rice I used was carnaroli, a large-grained starchy Italian rice well suited to risotto. I chose some fresh, very ripe trellis tomatoes and a handful of cherry and grape tomato varieties.

carnaroli:

Carnaroli is a medium-grained rice native to the Vercelli province of northern Italy. Carnaroli differs from the more common arborio rice due to its higher starch content and firmer texture, as well as having a longer grain. Carnaroli rice keeps its shape better than other forms of rice during the slow cooking required for making risotto due to higher quantities of amylose present within. It is often described as being a "superfino" rice.

more tomato risotto:

I added no butter or cheese, just a fruity olive oil in generous quantities. I folded through some of the last of my garden basil and a sprinkling of heavenly-scented fresh marjoram.
