H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Friday 8 April 2011--Last Day In Vrindavana--and--Do I Have to Leave My Family?

A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course(TM) Friday 8 April 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: Last Day In Vrindavana Uploaded from Sri Vrindavan Dhama It is always a very special experience to be here in Sri Vrindavana Dhama, the transcendental abode of Lord Sri Krishna. Lord Krishna displayed His most intimate pastimes in this place, the most sacred of all holy places. If one comes to this sacred land in the mood of devotion, he can quickly advance along the pathway of pure devotion to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Every particle of dust here is more valuable than all of the wealth of this entire material existence. Therefore residence in Vrindavan is the supreme residence. Those who are advanced in Krishna consciousness never leave Vrindavana because they always carry this most auspicious of all holy places with them within their hearts wherever they may go for spreading the glories of Vrindavana all over the universe. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Sri Sri Radha Govinda in the Forest of Vrindavana http://www.backtohome.com/images/radha-govinda.jpg Answers According to the Vedic Version: Question: Do I Have to Leave My Family? I would now like to bring your attention to a question which creates confusion in my mind. If a person has some love for Krishna and always remembers Him, while apologizing for every sin and expressing gratitude for all that Krishna has given him, but alongside he is also trying to fulfill his responsibilities towards his parents and spouse--is it really necessary and justified that he leave everything except for Krishna? After all it was Krishna who arranged and settled everything for him in this world. To abruptly reject the people in this world who love him would leave them in a catastrophic situation. C.K. Answer: Don't Leave Them. Lead Them. If one is truly apologetic for one's sins, he will naturally desist from any further sin. It is not that one can willingly, knowingly continue sinning and apologizing and expect to be continually forgiven because of such apologies. Apologies for willful sins are not genuine and will not be accepted by the Lord. We never say that one has to leave one's family members in order to become Krishna conscious. Rather we advise that one should remain with his family members and render them the highest service of bringing them to Krishna consciousness. Dandavats.com: Juhu temple story from past

By Maithili devi dasi

The Deities in the temple before they built temple were facing the opposite direction they are now when right before Mr Nair died he said 'if they do not leave the land I will take a rock and smash that Krsna's face'. When Srila Prabhupad heard this and while Mr. Nair's body was being carried past Radha Rasabihari towards the crematorium he said "Just look, Krsna is having the last laugh."

Las deidades en el templo antes de que construyeran el templo miraban en la dirección opuesta a la que ahora están cuando es derecho antes de que muriera el Sr. Nair él dijo ' si no salen de la tierra tomaré una roca y provocaré una rotura violenta de la cara Krsna. Cuando Srila Prabhupad oyó esto y mientras que el cuerpo del Sr. Nair estaba siendo llevado al crematorio estaba pasando por ultima vez por Radha Rasabihari el dijo "Apenas miré, Krsna está teniendo el pasado laugh." ;

Subhavilasa das ACBSP, Toronto, CA: Pancakes

Picture
As I am chanting, the smell of pancakes is coming from the kitchen. After I hear the offering, I expectantly look for breakfast and I am greeted  by a sorry looking pancake...and on top of that just one! I see a plate of nice round and fluffy pancakes and I am puzzled as to why I am getting just one and on top of that the pancake that did not quite make the cut.

I ask Kishori and she explains me that all the pancakes are for the kids. The school is having the kids make pancakes this morning and she does not want the kids to feel deprived as they look at other kids eating "eggy" pancakes. So she got up and made them prasadam pancakes. All of a sudden I am not minding getting the leftover pancake.

Kishori does something similar for Pizza day, Sub day and their endless list of special events at school. It makes me appreciate Kishori. It also makes me appreciate my parents since they made similar efforts and I never felt deprived in school.

We are now trying to raise a third generation of devotees and I am sure as other parents can understand this is not a easy task with the many distractions, temptations and functions we face. However, in my book,  these small things make a big difference. Inspiration and not deprivation is a key ingredient to increase the chances that these kids choose a devotional path as they grow up.

And that is the story of how I had a "sorry" pancake for breakfast. Well sort of...Gopika snuck me one of her pancakes :-)

~ Indresh

A quote from one of Srila Prabhupada's letters:
These children are given to us by Krishna, they are Vaisnavas and we must be very careful to protect them. These are not ordinary children, they are Vaikuntha children, and we are very fortunate we can give them chance to advance further in Krishna Consciousness. That is very great responsibility, do not neglect it or be confused. Your duty is very clear. Hoping this will meet you in good health.
Your ever well-wisher, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami.

Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: Ramanujacarya breaks the teeth of the Mayavadis

The statements of the Sankara philosophy, which are the teeth of the Mayavadi philosopher, are always broken by the strong arguments of Vaisnava philosophers such as the great acaryas, especially Ramanujacarya. Sripada Ramanujacarya and Madhvacarya break the teeth of the Mayavadi philosophers, who can therefore be called Vidantis, "toothless."

ISKCON News.com: Vatican: Religious Leaders Will Not Pray Together At Assisi

By Cindy Wooden for www.catholicherald.co.uk on 7 Apr 2011

The October gathering will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s “prayer for peace” encounter in Assisi. The 1986 event was seen by many as a milestone in interreligious relations but was criticised by some Catholics who said it appeared to inappropriately mix elements from Christian and non-Christian religions.

Lecture on Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 10, Chapter 2, Texts 7-8 titled "Getting to Krishna" given by Vishvambhar das.

Text 7 TRANSLATION

The Lord ordered Yogamaya: O My potency, who are worshipable for the entire world and whose nature is to bestow good fortune upon all living entities, go to Vraja, where there live many cowherd men and their wives. In that very beautiful land, where many cows reside, Rohini, the wife of Vasudeva, is living at the home of Nanda Maharaja. Other wives of Vasudeva are also living there incognito because of fear of Kamsa. Please go there.

PURPORT

Nanda-gokula, the residence of King Nanda, was itself very beautiful, and when Yogamaya was ordered to go there and encourage the devotees with fearlessness, it became even more beautiful and safe. Because Yogamaya had the ability to create such an atmosphere, the Lord ordered her to go to Nanda-gokula.

Text 8 TRANSLATION

Within the womb of Devaki is My partial plenary expansion known as Sankarshana or Sesha. Without difficulty, transfer Him into the womb of Rohini.

PURPORT

The first plenary expansion of Krishna is Baladeva, also known as Sesha. The Sesha incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead supports the entire universe, and the eternal mother of this incarnation is mother Rohini. "Because I am going into the womb of Devaki," the Lord told Yogamaya, "the Sesha incarnation has already gone there and made suitable arrangements so that I may live there. Now He should enter the womb of Rohini, His eternal mother."

In this connection, one may ask how the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is always situated transcendentally, could enter the womb of Devaki, which had previously been entered by the six asuras, the shad-garbhas. Does this mean that the Shad-garbhasuras were equal to the transcendental body of the Supreme Personality of Godhead? The following answer is given by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura.

The entire creation, as well as its individual parts, is an expansion of the energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore, even though the Lord enters the material world, He does not do so. This is explained by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita (9.4-5):

"By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them. And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities, and although I am everywhere, My Self is the very source of creation." Sarvam khalv idam brahma. Everything is an expansion of Brahman, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, yet everything is not the Supreme Godhead, and He is not everywhere. Everything rests upon Him and yet does not rest upon Him. This can be explained only through the acintya-bhedabheda philosophy. Such truths cannot be understood, however, unless one is a pure devotee, for the Lord says in Bhagavad-gita (18.55), bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvatah: "One can understand the Supreme Personality as He is only by devotional service." Even though the Lord cannot be understood by ordinary persons, this principle should be understood from the statement of the sastras.

A pure devotee is always transcendentally situated because of executing nine different processes of bhakti-yoga (sravanam kirtanam vishnoh smaranam pada-sevanam/ arcanam vandanam dasyam sakhyam atma-nivedanam [SB 7.5.23]). Thus situated in devotional service, a devotee, although in the material world, is not in the material world. Yet a devotee always fears, "Because I am associated with the material world, so many contaminations affect me." Therefore he is always alert in fear, which gradually diminishes his material association.

Symbolically, mother Devaki's constant fear of Kamsa was purifying her. A pure devotee should always fear material association, and in this way all the asuras of material association will be killed, as the shad-garbhasuras were killed by Kamsa. It is said that from the mind, Marici appears. In other words, Marici is an incarnation of the mind. Marici has six sons: Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada and Matsarya (lust, anger, greed, illusion, madness and envy). The Supreme Personality of Godhead appears in pure devotional service. This is confirmed in the Vedas: bhaktir evainam darsayati. Only bhakti can bring one in contact with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared from the womb of Devaki, and therefore Devaki symbolically represents bhakti, and Kamsa symbolically represents material fear. When a pure devotee always fears material association, his real position of bhakti is manifested, and he naturally becomes uninterested in material enjoyment. When the six sons of Marici are killed by such fear and one is freed from material contamination, within the womb of bhakti the Supreme Personality of Godhead appears. Thus the seventh pregnancy of Devaki signifies the appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. After the six sons Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada and Matsarya are killed, the Sesha incarnation creates a suitable situation for the appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In other words, when one awakens his natural Krishna consciousness, Lord Krishna appears. This is the explanation given by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura.

SB 10.2.7

The Lord ordered Yogamāyā: O My potency, who are worshipable for the entire world and whose nature is to bestow good fortune upon all living entities, go to Vraja, where there live many cowherd men and their wives. In that very beautiful land, where many cows reside, Rohiṇī, the wife of Vasudeva, is living at the home of Nanda Mahārāja. Other wives of Vasudeva are also living there incognito because of fear of Kaḿsa. Please go there.

SB 10.2.8

Within the womb of Devakī is My partial plenary expansion known as Sańkarṣaṇa or Śeṣa. Without difficulty, transfer Him into the womb of Rohiṇī.

SB 10.2.7

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): 273—Poem for April 7

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

5:47 A.M.

A Writer of Pieces

New format—I will begin with a poem written on the day of its printing. Then I will print random excerpts of books I have printed over the last 30 years. I hope this variety will be pleasing.

Poem for April 7

The heart is beating strong.
If there was an EKG test it,
would come out positive. Rapid
mantras don’t cause heart attack
but sustain the strength of
sixteen rounds by 4:00 A.M., about
two hours.

My mind was fixed straight on the
heart and how it continued so
strong. My vital symptoms
have always been strong.
It’s not the entire purport of
chanting, but it’s important.

I kept entirely smaller
with the heart beating
silently and prodigiously.
I don’t want to brag,
it’s His grace for a
limited time. He allows
it.

The technician said I’m
tachycardia, meaning I
jog just by sitting in a
chair. Have a slow heart
beat, but it was
concentrated without
fear in standing the nutrients.
Everyone should have this
facility to keep going
the allotted time like
a metronome. The other
meaning of heart is
seat of affection where
you put your prayer sentiment
into the exchange and
penetrate past mechanical japa
into priti, love, for
Radha and Krishna, who appeared
like a nice cowherd boy and
His girlfriend. I assessed
Them and worshiped Them
in my arati and was
glad that Narayana gave
me assurance I’ll have
no trouble in reading
with the swami.

From Dear Sky: Letters From a Sannyasi

“February 25, Stroudsburg, Pa.

“Dear devotees in Vrndavana,

“Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

“It’s hailing where I am, and I am out walking. Ice is bouncing off my bulky winter coat. I imagine it’s cold in Vrndavana too, but not like this! When I finish this walk I can go into a warm house, but you are always in the cold. You are in tapo-bhumi. But of course you have something incomparable—you live in Vrndavana, Krishna’s abode. The most I have here is that I can think of Vrndavana. I’m thinking of the place where you live.

“One reason I’m writing is to remind you of your fortune. Please never take it for granted that you live in Vrndavana dhama.

“I am just a tourist, but when I do go back to Vrndavana I would like to go on parikrama, make obeisances and pray to become the servant of Radharani. I also think of being with those friends with whom I can share these thoughts.

“I’m looking forward to being with you to talk about chanting. Sometimes I am embarrassed to admit that I don’t have so many other interests in the Krishna consciousness movement. I don’t even want many duties other than the duties of chanting and hearing. If I can become proficient in these things, I can be a good counselor and a good devotee in other ways. For me, these are the important things, and I know they are important for you too.

“Is there any way I can help you? Anything I can get you? I’ll send you some things as soon as I find someone going to India, so let me know what I should send. I already know you like olive oil, Pilot pens, and batteries.

“And you know what I’m looking for. I’m always eager for words from our favorite sadhus and news of Krishna-Balarama mandir and yourselves. How you are practicing Krishna consciousness?

“Me and some of the brahmacaris here have been reading from the Six Gosvamis’ literature in the evening. Last night we read from Jiva Gosvami’s Sankalpa-kalpadruma. In one verse he glorifies the inner Vrndavana, which he says is not perceivable in the outer Vrndavana:

“’Within the realm of Vrndavana manifested on the earth, an unmanifested Vrndavana, unmanifest to ordinary eyes, exists. In that invisible realm Lord Krishna enjoys blissful pastimes with the people of Vraja.’ (Sankalpa-kalpadruma 2.1.)

“You have a better chance of contacting the inner Vrndavana because you are so close to it. You can see Govardhana and the Yamuna. The local people will say ‘Jaya Radhe!’ in passing. You’re in a place where Krishna appeared, so the clues are certainly more evident than here in the hailstorming suburbs of Pennsylvania.

“Thinking of you and Vrindavana gives me a nice feeling of separation. Thank you for receiving this letter because it allowed me to enter the mood I desired. Don’t feel obliged to answer me at length, but at least a few lines in an aerogramme  . . . And if you’re inclined, you can tell me what it’s like to live in Vrndavana.”

From A Poor Man Reads the Bhagavatam, Volume I (1996)

Srimad Bhagavatam Canto I, Chapter II, Text 18

“‘By regular attendance in classes on the Bhagavatam and by rendering of service to the pure devotee, all that is troublesome to the heart is almost completely destroyed, and loving service unto the Personality of Godhead, who is praised with transcendental songs, is established as an irrevocable fact.’

“Comment:

“Both the Bhagavata Purana and the pure devotees of Bhagavan Sri Krishna are known as bhagavatas. Serving either of them (or both) is the remedy for obstacles in the heart. Both bhagavatas are the same in potency because both glorify the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

“An outsider to this process may doubt how it works, but Narada’s life story is offered as proof. Narada was only a five-year-old boy living with his mother, but when he rendered sincere service to the bhaktivedantas who visited his home, he was transformed and gradually became the great bhagavata, Narada Muni. The more one serves under the bhagavata’s guidance, the more one becomes fixed in loving service to the Supreme Lord.

“In the previous verse, Suta tells how Krishna Himself cleanses the heart of one who hears krishna-kathah. Now he informs us that hearing should be guided by a devotee-bhagavata and that this combination will assure success, despite the inevitable obstacles.

“In his early translation of this verse, Prabhupada asserts that not only ‘regularly hearing the Bhagavatam,’ but specifically ‘regular attendance in the Bhagavatam class.’ Sometimes it feels like a chore to attend the temple Bhagavatam class. Neither is it unusual to see devotees falling asleep rather than listening attentively. Do they sleep because someone less than pure is speaking? Perhaps. Whoever is asked to speak on a verse and purport should take it as a serious responsibility and prepare an interesting lecture. He should also live the life of service to the bhagavatas.

“But the fault may also be with the nodders. I must confess that I (and others) sometimes nodded out even while Prabhupada spoke the Bhagavatam. I admitted this to him once and he said, ‘Yes, there is a saying in India that the Bhagavatam is a sure cure for insomnia.’ He was joking, but I was mortified and said I didn’t want that to be true of me.

“Another time Prabhupada said only his advanced disciples could appreciate his classes. Still, he insisted that everyone attend and not excuse themselves by claiming they had other work to do. When he was given this excuse by one absentee, he shot back, ‘If you don’t hear, what work will you do, nonsense?’

“‘By regular attendance in the Bhagavatam class . . .’ Often devotees ask why this verse states that almost all the dirty things are removed. Why not all? Whenever I am asked that question I reply that it’s good if most of the dirty things are removed. Why complain? We tend to want everything to come in the first installment of mercy; we have to have faith that the bhagavatas know what we will need and will, in time, give us everything. They will irrevocably give us faith even before we are perfect, even up to bhava. We suffer from the odor of past sins.

“It is good to represent the perfect knowledge and to defend the parampara with intelligence. We gradually disarm and win over our audiences and then finally let them go, “All right, chant Hare Krishna,” or we give out sliced apples at the end as Swamiji did. Sooner or later, the class has to end and we’re back on the ground. Irrevocably fixed: a phrase from the class may stay in our heads awhile, or we may hum the Sanskrit, nasta-prayesv abhadresu nityam bhagavata-sevaya. Gradually our consciousness fills up with anticipation of breakfast and the rest of our morning—our life of service.

“That was already stated in previous verses that material activities, occupation or dharma, the facility to function and develop, should not be used for sense gratification but for inquiring into the Absolute Truth. It’s important to locate ourselves in genuine service. Service is not a one-time act but something you have to constantly adjust and improve. Don’t act out of personal motivation but as service to the eternal Father, the best friend, the Lord of all, Krishna.  Do it under the guru’s good graces.

“Got more to say? Yes, always more. Drift into the sea of deeper concerns, or the area where serendipity occurs, the chance encounter of nice feeling towards birds in God’s creation, of memories of life with the guru, of hopes of purity. Find your own genuine currency. Don’t dream of false currency. Something that is approaching true devotional service has almost all the dirty things removed. Almost. Don’t complain that they’re not 100% removed. I tell you this while waiting for a glass of juice to come.

“I am aghast so many devotees have left. Some go back to see them and hear their beefs. I stay here watching two dark, thin men walk over the cement dam surefooted, water-sluicing through their bare feet.

“I’m happy to be alive.
Tell him I can’t do full exercises, but I’m willing to breathe deeply.

“The laundry blows.

“There are at least three different editions of the First Canto. There are little differences between them, as in the “attendance at the Bhagavatam class verse. I once memorized this verse while walking through a wire fence in the American midwest. I was so young then, and I remembered that I was wearing a tattered garland and standing beside Lake Michigan with my thick tridandi pole.

“In this room there’s a large colored photo of a mataji. At first I thought it was Indira Ghandi, but then I realized it’s just someone’s mother photographed in a jolly moment. She may be dead by now. As casual residents of this room, we actually accept that she must stay on the wall, but if she’s dead, then why not me too? It stands to reason. In the meantime, I want to use my time well.

“Prabhupada wrote the First Canto under special circumstances while living in Vrndavana and printing in Delhi before coming to America. I love to think of Prabhupada during this time of his life. I want to be aware of these circumstances of his life as I read through the hundreds of purports in the First Canto. Of course, Prabhupada is wonderful in other ways during later years—early on in 1968 and through the early 1970s when we typed his Bhagavatam dictation tapes, then later as he traveled widely and managed ISKCON, sometimes sternly. Right now, though, I just want to savor Swamiji alone in Vrndavana “dreaming” of when the acaryas will send him forth. At times like this I wish I could be a frog in his Radha-Damodara room, watching him.

“I’m dreaming about my own writing too, and I’m alone and aspiring, hope against hope, yet feeling assured of Krishna’s mercy. I write to seek union with Prabhupada. I imitate his schedule to remember him, and I write on his Bhagavatam so I won’t forget.”

ISKCON News.com: Multicultural Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Sikh Comedians to Perform in 'FUNATICAL' Comedy Tour

With the recent deadly riots stemming from the burning of a Quran in Florida, religious and cultural tension is growing in America and around the world. 'FUNATICAL' breaks stereotypes and bridges gaps between people of diverse backgrounds and religions by promoting unity through laughter. Comedians poke fun of culture, race, politics, religion and current events, which they lampoon with humor and satire. The shows are produced by an interfaith team who uses comedy as an equalizer to counter prejudices in a humorous way. Presently, they are touring in Washington, D.C.

Malati dd, USA: Veggie “Toona” with Black Beans Sauce, Seasoned Tofu and Bokchoy

I’d been craving for Filipino food lately; the one that my mother used to cook! Even though almost all of those culinary memories are associated with meat and fish, I still can’t help but to long for my mother’s cooking. I’m certain it’s not the taste I’m hankering for, but it’s the amount of love and care my mother put into preparing and cooking the food. One of my personal favorite, is the one w/ black beans savory sauce with bokchoy! I love the pungent smell of black bean sauce! I know it sounds weird, but for me, the aroma of it brings back happy childhood memories. So, to satisfy my cravings, I made some veggie 2na with black bean sauce, bokchoy, and added some seasoned tofu. I also added my own masala concoction into this one, hahaha! If you notice in this recipe, a lot of tomatoes are needed. Since the black beans sauce is so salty, the tomatoes helps to mellow it down.

Ingredients:

veggie 2na (about 6-8 pieces)

seasoned tofu (optional)

2 tbsp of black beans sauce

2 tsp of white sugar

1 big tomato (cut in small pieces, if you can’t avail of a big tomato, 3 medium size tomatoes will do too)

2 tbsp minced ginger

2 cups water

1 tsp sesame oil

2 tsp peanut oil

3 cluster of bokchoy

2 medium size red and yellow sweet bell pepper ( cut into small cubes, and you can used any color you want)

broccoli florets (about a handful)

some chives for garnishing

Masala:

1/2 tsp Hungarian paprika

1/2 tsp grounded black pepper

1/2 tsp hing/asoefatida ( you can buy this in any Indian store)

Procedure:

1. Pan fry the veggie 2na until golden brown. Set aside.

2. Cut the seasoned tofu into small cubes and pan fry. Set aside.

3. Cut the bokchoy and separate the leaves from the steam. Cut the steam into medium size cubes.

4. In a hot pan, pour in the peanut oil. When oil is hot, put the ginger and cooked it until slightly brown. Add in the masala and stir it with the ginger.

5. Mix in the tomatoes, bell peppers, and seasoned tofu and add the 2 cups of water. Simmer for 2 minutes.

6. Add the black beans sauce, sugar, bokchoy steams, and broccoli. Stir and simmer again for 2 minutes.

7. Add the bokchoy leaves and sesame oil, and do a quick stir.

8. Lastly, put the veggie 2na and simmer it for a second. Garnish it with some chives.

Dandavats.com: Misunderstood Renunciation

By Kesava Krsna Dasa

Does anyone aspire to become a sannyasa? Simply having this ambition in the first place is not the desire of a truly renounced person. On the other hand, all those who relish genuine taste in Krishna consciousness, will know what proper renunciation is. For this reason, both men and women can live as sannyasis without having that title

Bharatavarsa.net: Book distribution seminar: From Sankirtan to Sankirtan

Three sisters came from El Paso, Texas, to visit Radha-Kalachandji Dhama in Dallas for the Gaura-Purnima weekend -- 22-year-old Stephanie, 13-year-old Erika, and 7-year-old Carmen. They had met devotees and started chanting Hare Krishna at an El Paso yoga studio just one month earlier, after having attended a program that Jivananda Prabhu hosted.

The day after the festival, Sri Rangavati Dasi and I were gearing up for sankirtan in the local area and asked the girls if they wanted to come along. They were all dressed up in saris and tilak and were milling around the temple. We have been inspired by Vaisesika Prabhu's idea of taking a bunch of devotees door to door.

At one house a group of migrant workers from Mexico were on the porch. Stephanie did all the talking. She told them in Spanish about the great knowledge the books have, and four men bought the "Perfecion de Yoga." At another house was a man who started the conversation about Jesus being the only way, which implied he did not want what we had to offer. Little Carmen took all the credit for giving the man a "Beyond Birth and Death." She charmed him and got a donation.

Everyone who bought a book was given a mantra card and tried chanting Hare Krishna. The three girls told them that the mantra meant "el deposito de placer" ("the reservoir of pleasure"), and they should chant and come to the temple for the Sunday Feast. Ninety percent of the houses bought Srila Prabhupada's books. The three sisters had only bought books themselves a month before and were able to perform sankirtan on their second day visiting an ISKCON center.

New Vrindavan, USA: Ramnavami 2011

Lord Ram with Mother Sita Devi worshipped.

This years Ramnavami is on 12th April. The Supreme Personality of Godhead incarnated Himself as Sri Rama, appearing as the son of His pure devotee Maharaja Dasharatha, the King of Ayodhya. Lord Rama descended along with His plenary portions, and all of them appeared as His younger brothers. In the month of Chaitra on the ninth day of the growing moon in the Treta-yuga, the Lord appeared, as usual, to establish the principles of religion and to annihilate the disturbing elements.

Every year New Vrindaban celebrates Ramnavmi with great joy and pomp. On Ramnavmi, the functions at New Vrindaban begin with mangala-arati at 5:00 am, followed by Sringar-darshan (where the Lord is decorated with new exquisite dresses), sacred abhishek, elaborate noon arati and offering of sumptuous bhoga.

Bhakta Chris, New York, USA: The Humble Musings Of The Manhattan Monk 4/7/11

It is the inherent nature of devotional service, the art of bhakti, that everything we do with sincerity and with genuine purpose gives and reveals a deep compassion from within our heart. The more committed we become, the more active our compassion is. It's a natural reaction, and these two aspects reinforce each other in strength and love.

It's damn hard work to open the heart in prayer, to go deep inside and lay the framework for the external manifestations of our heart in compassionate action. It's a mountain of dirt we have to get rid of. From the immense, eternal compassion emanating from the lotus feet of the Lord I pray the waves of mercy will free the river of compassion to flow in the service of His active love in this world.

Our internal work of prayer is meant to make us overflow with this compassion that must be given and communicated to the world.

For myself, perhaps for you too, the most compassionate act is the most difficult to do. It doesn't come naturally. It must be forced out, pulled out of the heart, plucked out of the weeds, rare flowers to be offered.

At least I can see the opportunities that were missed, and carry with me now the instruments and gifts I must learn to give at a moment's notice. Sometimes, in the self-imposed restrictions of my current condition, all I can do to help someone is to pray and trust in the Lord's mercy for them. But always I must push to do more, to grow.

It's hard to chant above the din of the city
It's hard to chant above the din of the mind

Compassion is not a by-product of the over-stimulated intellect, of the defender of the philosophical mold, in all its bound glory. The mind must be there, the intellect must be active, for compassion is never mindless or without deliberation, but the mind is merely a means to an end, the end of which is the scope of our heart.

To care for others in a real and meaningful way requires humility, patience, and time well spent. The only grasping for compassion we need to do is to make our own heart capable. The path is already laid out for us. There is no need to make a new philosophical or theological discovery. That is not going to happen here, not here in the heart-space.

To speculate, to agitate the intellect towards the unnecessary, the "splendid", is a waste of time and energy. We only have to aim for the heart.

The humbling bumbling book distributor, the old white widow of Vraja, and the simple priest are well beyond the wordy "intellectual" samurai in their humble heart-felt connection with what is Truth.

Japa Group: He Could Relish Spiritual Bliss

In the material world, if one engages in chanting a material name, he will feel tired after chanting a few times. However, one can chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra all day and night and never feel tired. As chanting is increased, it will come out new and fresh. Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī said that if he could somehow get millions of ears and tongues, then he could relish spiritual bliss by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra.

A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course

Thursday 7 April 2011

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.)

Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss.

  Today's Thought:

      Qualify Yourself to See God
  Uploaded from Sri Vrindavan Dhama

It is not difficult to see God provided you have the qualification. What is that qualification? To be a pure lover of God. In other words when you have nothing to take from God and you only want to give to God, that is when He will reveal Himself to you. This means that there is nothing more important, more valuable, or more essential than developing your pure love for God.
