Srila Vrindavana Dasa Thakura writes in his Sri Nityananda Caritamrta:
"Who can describe the good fortune of the people of this world? Sri Caitanya and Sri Nityananda, the oceans of transcendental qualities, have descended to this world.
False ego makes people devoid attachment to Sri Krsna. Knowing this, worship Lord Nityananda.
May the holy names of these Lords, whose mercy delivered all the fallen souls, be the garland around your neck..."

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: SPIRITUAL WARRIOR BENEFITS
A career as a Spiritual Warrior provides intangible and tangible benefits. SWs work closely with their teammates to innovatively accomplish missions important to spreading of transcendental knowledge. They constantly learn and push their physical and mental limits, living unconventional and out-of-the-cubicle lifestyles.
Camaraderie
Every teammate on a SW Team brings his unique identity, personality, intelligence and talents to contribute to the SW's collective abilities to rapidly adapt and innovate on the battlefield. Each man who wears the SW sings has endured the same extreme mental and physical challenge thus making the SW Teams the ultimate brotherhood. Teammates do not let each other down, on or off the battlefield. The relationships and friendships formed within "The Teams" last a lifetime.
SW is a lifestyle rather than just a job or career. "The office" for a SW transcends not only the elements of the sea, air and land, but also international boundaries, the extremes of geography and the full spectrum of conflict. There is no "typical day at the office" for a SW. SWs constantly learn, improve and refine their skills while working with their teammates. For a SW, the only easy day was yesterday.
Learning
SWs constantly learn new skills, while improving and refining existing ones. The lives of their teammates and their mission success depend upon the individual and collective technical skills, tactical proficiency and attention to detail of each SW within his platoon or Team. For a SW, training is never complete. Qualified SWs can choose from hundreds of training courses that develop a SW's knowledge base and technical skills. The following are just some of the training available to SW's during their missions and careers:
- Self Care
- Success Partnerships
- Mutual Assistance
- Chanting School
- Positive Language Training
- Kirtan Jumpmaster Qualification
- Preaching Dive Qualification
- Maya Attack Defense
- Spiritual Intelligence Analysis
- Communications

Japa Group: Prayer To The Mind
Hello dear devotees, Here is a beautiful prayer so our minds can engage properly in devotional service.
O my dear mind, in order to attain the direct service of Sri Sri Radha-Giridhari, who are always entranced by amorous desires, and the service of Their eternal associates, one should drink the pancamrita described by Srila Rupa Gosvamipada. This pancamrita is ambroasial nectar comprised by the following ingredients of service:
1) Arcana, worship of Sri Yugala
2) Sankirtana, chanting the glories of Their names, forms, qualities and pastimes
3) Dhyana, meditating upon Them
4) Pranams, offering loving obeisances to Them
5) Worship of Sri Govardhana daily in accordance with precepts of bhaktiwww.saranagati.net
The chanting of the holy names is considered one of the best processes of devotional service and should be performed everyday with lots of attention and love.
Harinam Sankirtan ki jay!
your servant,
Aruna devi• Email to a friend • •

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: Transcendental samadhi - ethos of Krishna consicousnes
It is certainly the opportunity for us to experience what Samadhi is, to be absorbed in one activity, putting aside all other things. That activity being giving Krishna to others, making them fortunate. The difficulties that come along with that in terms of weather, in terms of officials, in terms of perhaps people not wanting us to be on street and what to speak of obstacles that our mind poses. This is all what it requires to actually become or overcome these things and to become a real vaishnav. To enter into Samadhi. Bhajananadis face them in some other form; we face them in this way. And when we practice doing so, we become practiced in meditating upon Krishna, being absorbed in Krishna. Srila Prbahupada often defines a first class devotee in terms of someone who is always thinking about spreading Krishna consciousness, when you are thinking about spreading Krishna consciousness you are thinking about Krishna’s service. And the other definition of a first class devotee is one who is always absorbed in Krishna’s form, Krishna’s name but the purity of heart required for both is the same. The actual focussing of the mind required for both is same; all that differs is the mood. One is enjoying Krishna consciousness and one is giving Krishna consciousness. And this mood of giving Krishna consciousness to others is the mood of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu it is what the Krishna consciousness movement is all about...
Any devotee who makes reference to Srila Prabhupada’s books, lectures will see that Srila Prabhupada emphasised the distribution of transcendental literature as the main focus of Krishna consciousness movement and all other activities are made successful by that one act and they are also meant to support it. Prabhuapda has not been with us for now over 40 years however that mission of Srila Prabhupada that ethos of Krishna consciousness movement has not yet changed. Prabhuapda has stated that you can check the success of a temple manager, the spiritual strength of a temple, and the success of a yatra by how enthusiastic devotees are for distributing books and also how many numbers of books. Srila Prabhupada wasn’t fruitive in anyways, yet he did quantify the success of Krishan consciousness. He quantified the distribution of books and he wasn’t the first to do that. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu also did that, he said ‘yare dekhe tara kaha krishna upadesha’ ‘prithvite ate yati nagaradi grama’. He is talking about large numbers.

BG 13.26: Again there are those who, although not conversant in spiritual knowledge, begin to worship the Supreme Person upon hearing about Him from others. Because of their tendency to hear from authorities, they also transcend the path of birth and death.

H.H. Prahladananda Swami: Transcription excerpt of His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami
Tamal Krishna Goswami: “Just like we can see, one devotee from our society, you know him, Prahladananda Swami. Always blissful. He is always blissful. Why? Because he is always absorbed in remembering the pastimes of Krishna. That’s his sadhana. He has that technique. He memorizes pastimes of Krishna constantly and so he is blissful wherever he goes. Heaven or hell is the same for him. He doesn’t care. That’s a good example. (Srimad Bhagavatam class, Amsterdam October 1990)

Krishna Lounge, LA, USA: Take Out the Trash!
Society and media would have us believe that our life will be best when our we can light a cigar with a hundred dollar bill with a diamond studded cross hanging from our neck to show our social status. But those of us on the spiritual path know that these kinds of desire are just like trash cluttering up the heart. Material desires cloud our real need and interest in life, which is love; that valuable thing which no money can buy.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): 318–Poem for May 22
4:25 A.M.
A Writer of Pieces
New format–I will begin with a poem written on the day of its printing. Then I will print random excerpts of books I have printed over the last 35 years. I hope this variety will be pleasing.
Poem for May 22
I could not sleep at all
last night. Pain in the eye
and sweating in the warm room.
I rose at 12:30 and began my
japa straining to keep awake. When Vidura asked questions about
the Lord, Uddhava within went to
Dvaraka to be with Krishna, and he
returned to the material world fully
prepared to remember Sri Krishna.
He was one who in childhood
played with dolls of Krishna and
when his mother called him for breakfast
he did not wish to have it.
These are the symptoms of a
nitya-siddha. Prabhupada writes
that in his childhood he was fortunate to receive a Krishna
murti from his father and
he imitated the worship he had
seen in the Radha-Govinda
mandir in his neighborhood.Yesterday I wrote a piece in
the autobiog about censorship.
I have been vexed and
harassed by abridgement of
freedom of speech. My
books are before their time.
Japa Reform Notebook and
Entering the Life of Prayer
were criticized when they came out but years later
they were warmly received.
Now I write unhampered
and publish on the cutting
edge. I could not sleep but
I’m awake buoyed by music to write
my poem. It’s smooth
and tuneful and I
fit in Krishna lyrics
to be true to parampara.
Krishna improvises words
that ride on wings
and fly through the spiritual sky.
He accepts my offering of purified thought
balanced in a 4/4 beat.
Each morning I tell the news of a sadhaka’s
day, blending it in
with the song of masters
of bop. It’s not
incongruous but harmonious
to present Krishna in
this way. “In foggy
London town the sun was shining everywhere.”• Email to a friend • •
H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): OLD FRIENDS
From Prabhupada Meditations, Volume III
“Thank You for Educating Us in God Consciousness
“When I hear people make mistakes while speaking about God, I try not to be puffed up. Just because I have received the best education does not mean I should look down on others. Students at Harvard University or Oxford University may be better educated, but they spoil their treasure if they look down upon common people. Similarly, I do not want to be a snob in God consciousness, but I appreciate what Srila Prabhupada has taught us.
“I feel humbled sometimes when I see someone else’s faith in God. I also meet people who have more love for God than I do, even though they may not have received such a thorough education. I will never stop being grateful to Prabhupada, however, for giving me this education. In that sense, I am proud.
“In the modern age people are proud of their college degrees, but this is also an age of increase of atheistic propaganda. Therefore, unless we get a good education in God consciousness, we are liable to be misdirected by education. Godless education is worse than being illiterate. It is like a poisonous snake with a jewel on its head.
“In his evening lectures at 26 Second Avenue in 1966, Swamiji blasted the ignorance of puffed-up New Yorkers. He said, ‘You do not know anything. The whole world does not know anything. No one knows God. You think that the self is the body. You think that this life is for amassing money for sense gratification. This is all ignorance, all illusion.”
“Prabhupada said that love with the family and noble attempts to help people by altruism are both illusion; they will all be destroyed.
“In the morning, in an intimate setting with his own disciples, Prabhupada taught Caitanya-caritamrta. Even in the pedagogical sense, his was an accredited course in advanced spiritual knowledge.
“When Prabhupada heard that IBM was donating free typewriters to bona-fide educational institutes, he asked me to go get one. I met with the man, but when he heard the description of our ISKCON storefront, he said, ‘I’m sorry, but these typewriters are only for educational institutions.’ I replied that Krishna consciousness is the king of education. It teaches absolute knowledge. Mathematics, for example, is one department of knowledge within the Absolute Truth. Therefore ISKCON is an educational institution. He decided not to argue with me, but said that he would send his representative out to check on the quality of classes at 26 Second Avenue. Of course, no one ever came. An impartial educator, however, would have to admit that learning was going on in Prabhupada’s classes. Prabhupada was teaching us the principles of spiritual science as passed down by the great acaryas of India.
“Anyone who studies Prabhupada’s books becomes educated in the most important subject. When a follower of Prabhupada hears a discussion of God consciousness, he spots contradictions or a ‘poor fund of knowledge’ wherever it occurs. Even a young brahmacari can note the flaws in the presentations of learned theologians or clergymen. Theologians are puzzled as to ‘why bad things happen to good people.’ Some of them theorize that God may be all-good, but He is not all-powerful. Some say that God cannot have a form or that God exists only in human relationships—but we can see this as a poor fund of knowledge.
“One of the benefits of a good education in any field is that one easily meets opposition from prejudiced or ignorant persons. Sometimes people would ask Prabhupada, ‘What is your faith?’ Prabhupada usually replied, ‘It is not faith, it is fact.’ He also said, ‘You may believe or not believe. That is a different thing.’ When a devotee meets a strong-minded atheist, the devotee sees right away that the atheist is only speaking for himself. We are not shaken in our convictions. Let us always thank Prabhupada for giving us the best education in the most important of all subjects. It is not a sectarian religious education. It is not less important than material knowledge. Prabhupada teaches raja-vidya, the king of education. Most of us are unqualified to receive this education, and yet we have received a full scholarship. Just as an underprivileged person feels fortunate to receive a scholarship to a top university, we are grateful that Prabhupada has accepted us at the university of Vaisnava brahmanism.
“A few colleges now give credits to Prabhupada’s students in courses based on his books. Nevertheless, it is hard to imagine Krishna conscious students will be given as much credit in the world as science or business students. If Vaisnavas become recognized as educators, that will be nice. If not, we will go on teaching. One who is trained by Prabhupada is better than a Ph.D.—yet he humbly thinks himself unadvanced.
“The subject in which we are trained, love of God, is unlimitedly vast. We can never know everything about Krishna. Therefore a Ph.D. in this field honestly says he doesn’t have deep love for Krishna. He realizes that if he had love for Krishna, how could he live in this world without Him?
“The accomplished student of Krishna consciousness never considers himself a master of this subject and never becomes puffed-up. He acknowledges that even simple people can receive God consciousness by the direct method of chanting the holy names. Prabhupada has taught us everything; he has given us the syllabus and the practices, and he has stressed humility. This is true education.”
From Spiritualized Dictionary
“Tetrachord
“The word originates with the Greek tetrachordon, meaning ‘four strings.’ It refers to ‘1. A musical instrument with four strings 2. The basic unit of analysis in Greek music, consisting of a diatonic or disjunct series of four notes or tones with an interval of a perfect fourth between the first and last and distinguished by the relative position of the half-step or steps or quarter-tones or tones in the series. 3. The musical interval of a perfect fourth.’
“Well, I don’t know enough about music to know. I have never heard of a tetrachord, and I certainly don’t know how to analyze music according to the ancient Greek system. I do know ‘music has charm to soothe the savage breast.’ I also know that Krishna’s flute-playing is the ultimate expression of musical truth. I have been reading in the Bhagavatam that the sadhana-siddha gopis were able to hear Krishna’s flute, but they were unable to run out into the forest to meet Him. Because these gopis so intensely thought of Krishna within their hearts and minds, they ‘gave up their bodies.’ Some people assume that this means they died, but the acaryas explain that they didn’t die. Rather, they gave up the material aspect of their bodies. The spiritual aspect then became predominant.
“By way of explanation, the acaryas say that an ordinary sadhaka also experiences this phenomenon. That is, he experiences both the material and spiritual aspects of his body. If, for example, a devotee listens to material sound vibration for sense gratification, he experiences the material side. This may be startling. We usually prefer to justify our sense gratification and not see it so starkly for what it is. If we listen to music that is not specifically written for Krishna’s pleasure or glorification, then we cannot claim that it is Krishna conscious.
“There may be some objections to this. We could say that everything is spiritual. Certainly some musical artists consider themselves spiritual, even if they are not God conscious—what to speak of Krishna conscious—according to the Vedic definition. Still, they see their music as an offering to God or an expression of spirituality, and we, as Krishna conscious persons, may agree that they have a point. It reminds me of a question I asked Prabhupada in the early days at 26 Second Avenue: ‘What about the God consciousness of the great Western thinkers?’ Prabhupada said, ‘Their God consciousness is their sincerity.’
“All right, but does it specifically help us to remember Krishna? Does it have that innate purity? Music evokes emotion. Pop songs evoke ‘pop’ emotion; classical music touches on something more subtle. Then is it harmless recreation to listen to music that evokes gross or subtle, but mundane, emotion, or is it yet another thing helping to bind us to the material world.
Although Krishna isn’t malicious, if we demonstrate a desire to engage in activities that help us to forget Him, He will facilitate our desire and even give us the intelligence to justify it. Therefore a practicing devotee restrains himself from engaging in such activities. He doesn’t want to touch that material aspect of himself too often. Rather, he wants to awaken the spiritual side, not just awaken it, but give it fire. If we engage in sense gratification, we will awaken something else. How long will we chase after that ‘something else’? Until the time of death? No, longer, because those desires will carry us forward into the next life. We’ll get a chance to finish listening to that last song. And by the way, it’s Kali-yuga. The entire planet is infested with war and plague. I’m not exactly sure where you’ll be born, but you have some pious credits. Maybe you’ll be safe.”From Srila Prabhupada Samadhi Diary
“Prabhupada’s Room“Dear Srila Prabhupada,
“I’m in your rooms. You know how mental I am. You can smash me or pacify me. I tend to find fault, and I just wish to be left alone. People rub against me and the strain of any interaction seems a botheration. But this isn’t your spirit. You ‘rubbed elbows’ with the marijuana-heads, the acid-heads, the hippies of the Lower East Side and you transformed us. You said those who loved you will cooperate. I’ll continue to try.
“The letter on your desk today is to Ranadira, 1972. He has since gone from your service. You wrote to him that he was senior and serious and that if he kept it up, he would very soon reach ‘the supreme highest perfection.’ I look at this now and feel some sorrow. Still, I feel hopeful because what you promised to the devotees is still true, provided we follow your instructions. You wrote, ‘We must become so seriously responsible for practicing this Krishna consciousness, because the world is full of degrading elements . . . save the people.’ That was Srila Prabhupada’s concern. Save the people.
“‘So I count on you and your Godbrothers among those few men who are treading seriously on the path back home, back to Godhead . . . Do not fall back.’
“It will increase if we keep the standard he gave us; ‘Otherwise, it will gradually become mechanical and fade away like every other so-called religious movement.’
“Srila Prabhupada, you are still counting on us. We are still only a few men. The world is full of bad elements dragging people down. We can work to save them. We have to keep the enthusiasm and the high standards you gave us. It has in some ways become mechanical. Hardening of the arteries is occurring, but also new hope and life. I’m fighting for my own life in which to stay as you describe in this letter, a senior disciple whom you can trust and who takes his responsibilities seriously. Now my duties have become refined, but they’re even more responsible than before. People look to me to set an example that there is still life in Krishna consciousness even after you practice it for thirty or forty years. Actually, the longer you practice spiritual life, the more enlivened you become.
“I want to prove myself faithful. I want to be in the spirit that you want me to be in. I think I know what that means and what I should do.
“You let me come into your room to write in front of you. It’s as if I’m your secretary again, hurriedly writing down something you say so that I can type it up for you later. I’m not exactly receiving dictation from you now, but I’m in that mood.
“I want to take the dust from your feet on my head. I’ll go now and do other duties for you. I’m your secretary and older student, but still a young boy in spiritual learning who needs to hear from his spiritual master. All glories to you, Srila Prabhupada.”

Subhavilasa das ACBSP, Toronto, CA: Annual anti-Abortion March and a Hare Krisna Perspective.
Last week witnessed thousands of people take to the street for the 14th annual anti-abortion march in Ottawa. Most of the Pro-life groups are Christian and we thought is would be interesting to get a Krishna Consciouss perespective on abortion, so we turn to the Srimad Bhagavatam (6.16.14) and the purport of our Guru, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
bāla-ghnyo vrīditās tatra
bāla-hatyā-hata-prabhāh
bāla-hatyā-vrataḿ cerur
brāhmanair yan nirūpitam
yamunāyāḿ mahārāja
smarantyo dvija-bhāsitam
Queen Krtyadyuti's co-wives, who had poisoned the child, were very much ashamed, and they lost all their bodily luster. While lamenting, O King, they remembered the instructions of Ańgirā and gave up their ambition to bear children. Following the directions of the brāhmaṇas, they went to the bank of the Yamunā, where they bathed and atoned for their sinful activities.
PURPORT
In this verse the word bāla-hatyā-hata-prabhāh is to be particularly noted. The practice of killing children has existed in human society for a long time — since time immemorial — but in the days of yore it was very rarely performed. At the present moment, however, in this age of Kali, abortion — killing of the child within the womb — has become very common, and sometimes a child is even killed after birth. If a woman performs such an abominable act, she gradually loses all her bodily luster (bāla-hatyā-hata-prabhāh). It is also to be noted that the ladies who had committed the sinful act of administering poison to the child were very much ashamed, and according to the directions of the brāhmaṇas, they had to undergo atonement for killing the child. Any woman who has ever performed such an infamously sinful act must atone for it, but no one now is doing that. Under the circumstances, the women responsible must suffer in this life and the next. Those who are sincere souls, after hearing this incident, should refrain from such child-killing and should atone for their sinful activities by taking to Krsna consciousness very seriously. If one chants the Hare Krsna mahā-mantra without offenses, all of one's sinful actions are surely atoned for immediately, but one should not commit such deeds again, for that is an offense.

Maddy Jean-claude Durr, New Govardhana, AU: Finishing the Caitanya Caritamrta
I want to avoid the pride issue but Srila Prabhupada instructed us to write something when we finish reading his books. I would write and simply keep it to myself but what is this but talking to the mind when perhaps something I say may be beneficial to someone. Today Friday 13th, May 2011 I have finished my reading of Caitanya Caritamrta.
The read was most exciting and most inspiring. It was like giving life to a dead man. I encourage anyone, whether not begun or currently doing so, to read Srila Prabhupada’s books. If you miss this opportunity, you will not know the real extremities of satisfaction that can be experienced in life. I have searched far and wide but I still have not found any activity more satisfying. It is sometimes pain, it is sometimes pleasure, sometimes I am fully attentive and sometimes the words barely go in, but it is unlimitedly purifying and it somehow becomes truly joyful. Instantly, at the point I finish this read, I cannot wait until the next read.
Srila Prabhupada puts so much love and so much life to this works, after Krsna Dasa Kaviraja has done the same, in the same fashion. There is the love and devotion of these incomparably exalted saints, as well as the input of so many more. There is an actual, current biography of God, in His most merciful form, and it is impossible to ever fathom the significance of all this. If a moment’s association of a pure devotee will change your life forever then what of hours associating with many, who sacrificed so much effort for this to be read, what to speak of being totally connected to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Forget bathing in rivers, forget pilgrimage, just sit in one place, any place, and read this divine literature. What could be more beneficial?
Adi-Lila is filled with philosophy I have never experienced before. Madhya-Lila is filled with stories and dialogues that one could never even conjure. Antya-Lila is filled with so many sweet encounters, and exceptionally high and esoteric moments that one may never realize a pinch of it in his lifetime. I was considering the Tenth Canto esoteric until I reached the final phases of Caitanya Caritamrta.
Once again, I could feel no more fortunate than now, to have finished this, to have absorbed what I could by the causeless mercy of the writers, and to be able to encourage you all too also do the same. There is no joy greater in my life that I have achieved and I do not say this to kid you. I could give lip service to any mundane literature but no lip service could even begin to express the wonder of Caitanya Caritamrta. If you want to be drawn closer to Krsna, if you want Radharani’s mercy and if you want to understand the true mood of Srila Prabhupada, then please read this literature. You will never regret it; you will only wish to read it again.
Your aspiring, wretched servant, Madhavendra Puri Dasa (a fortunate reader of Caitanya Caritamrta).

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: Power of a flower
I crossed the street and saw that there was a little baby girl in her dad’s arms, not more than 2-3 months old and as I looked closer I noticed she was chewing a little Maha flower from the altar that we were giving out in zip-loc bags. I walked closer and started talking to the dad and it turned out that Kathleen had given them a flower. I started to tell the father that the child was not ordinary that at such a young age she had got this special flower and was literally licking it (that’s what kids do). Then I started to compliment the mother, who was not present at that moment, and offered the father a perfection of yoga to read. He started to explain that his wife was into this stuff and looking at the book he said that she had got this about an year ago from someone (before the baby was born). Now he really had my attention and I offered him a Krishna book. I started to explain the pictures and he said that he really liked the book. He explained that recently they had helped an Indian friend and subsequently met a lady who was spiritual and she was explaining to them all about Gods. So I told him how Krishna book has everything you want to know about and the beauty was that it's in a story format so he could read it to his little girl before she went to sleep. He happily accepted it and waited till his wife returned to give a donation. It was nice meeting his wife and realizing what an influence associating with Guru Parampara through perfection of yoga has on people's life.
Srila Prabhupada said that everyone who reads the Krishna book will surely become a devotee. Let us please share this with everyone.• Email to a friend • •

Japa Group: I Wanted To Chant Like A Lover
I wanted to chant with care in my moral and spiritual feelings toward Nama Prabhu. Seeing Radha-Govinda helped because They are tenderness personified. I wanted to chant like a lover. I chanted in a subdued way, because I had to because of my head. But it also lent itself towards feelings of warmth and sympathy, gentle and delicate. One should handle the holy name in that way. It was a nice feeling. I’d like to always chant in that way.
