Lord Nrsimhadev
Prayers to Lord Nrsimha
Lord Nrsimha is the incarnation of Lord Krsna that appeared to protect his young devotee Prahlada. He appeared as half-man half-lion and killed the envious, atheistic demon, Hiranyakashipu who was materialism personified (hiran-gold, kasipu-soft bed). Devotees pray to Lord Nrsimhadeva for protection and to kill their material desires.

Prahlada Maharaj
“The history of Prahlada Maharaja, the great devotee of Nrsimhadeva, is narrated in the Seventh Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Prahlada Maharaja, a small child of only five years, became the object of envy for his great father, Hiranyakasipu, only because of his becoming a pure devotee of the Lord. The demon father employed all his weapons to kill the devotee son, Prahlada, but by the grace of the Lord he was saved from all sorts of dangerous actions by his father. He was thrown in a fire, in boiling oil, from the top of a hill, underneath the legs of an elephant, and he was administered poison. At last the father himself took up a chopper to kill his son, and thus Nrsimhadeva appeared and killed the heinous father in the presence of the son. Thus no one can kill the devotee of the Lord. ”
Srimad-bhagavatam, 1:15:16 Purport
“Following the instructions of Prahlada Maharaja, all the sons of the demons became attached to Lord Visnu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. When this attachment became pronounced, their teachers, Sanda and Amarka, were very much afraid that the boys would become more and more devoted to the Lord. In a helpless condition, they approached Hiranyakasipu and described in detail the effect of Prahlada’s preaching. After hearing of this, Hiranyakasipu decided to kill his son Prahlada. Hiranyakasipu was so angry that Prahlada Maharaja fell down at his feet and said many things just to pacify him, but he was unsuccessful in satisfying his demoniac father. Hiranyakasipu, as a typical demon, began to advertise himself as being greater than the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but Prahlada Maharaja challenged him, saying that Hiranyakasipu was not God, and began to glorify the Supreme personality of Godhead, declaring that the Lord is all-pervading, that everything is under Him, and that no one is equal to or greater than Him. Thus he requested his father to be submissive to the omnipotent Supreme Lord.
The more Prahlada Maharaja glorified the Supreme personality of Godhead, the more angry and agitated the demon became. Hiranyakasipu asked his Vaisnava son whether his God existed within the columns of the palace, and Prahlada Maharaja immediately accepted that since the Lord is present everywhere, He was also present within the columns. When Hiranyakasipu heard this philosophy from his young son, he derided the boy’s statement as just the talk of a child and forcefully struck the pillar with his fist.
As soon as Hiranyakasipu struck the column, there issued forth a tumultuous sound. At first Hiranyakasipu, the King of the demons, could not see anything but the pillar, but to substantiate Prahlada’s statements, the Lord came out of the pillar in His wonderful incarnation as Narasimha, half lion and half man. Hiranyakasipu could immediately understand that the extraordinarily wonderful form of the Lord was surely meant for his death, and thus he prepared to fight with the form of half lion and half man. The Lord performed His pastimes by fighting with the demon for some time, and in the evening, on the border between day and night, the Lord captured the demon, threw him on His lap, and killed him by piercing his abdomen with His nails. The Lord not only killed Hiranyakasipu, the King of the demons, but also killed many of his followers. When there was no one else to fight, the Lord, roaring with anger, sat down on Hiranyakasipu’s throne.
The entire universe was thus relieved of the rule of Hiranyakasipu, and everyone was jubilant in transcendental bliss. Then all the demigods, headed by Lord Brahma, approached the Lord. These included the great saintly persons, the Pitas, the Siddhas, the Vidyadharas, the Nagas, the Manus, the prajapatis, the Gandharvas, the Caranas, the Yaksas, the Kimpurusas, the Vaitalikas, the Kinnaras and also many other varieties of beings in human form. All of them stood not far from the Supreme Personality of Godhead and began offering their prayers unto the Lord, whose spiritual effulgence was brilliant as He sat on the throne.”
Srimad-bhagavatam, 7:8 Summary
“Prahlada Maharaja, while praying to Lord Nrsimha, said, “O my Lord, I am very much afraid of the materialistic way of life, and I am not the least afraid of Your present ghastly ferocious feature as Nrsimhadeva. This materialistic way of life is something like a grinding stone, and we are being crushed by it. We have fallen into this horrible whirlpool of the tossing waves of life, and thus, my Lord, I pray at Your lotus feet to call me back to Your eternal abode as one of Your servitors. This is the summit liberation of this materialistic way of life. I have very bitter experience of the materialistic way of life. In whichever species of life I have taken birth, compelled by the force of my own activities, I have very painfully experienced two things, namely separation from my beloved and meeting with what is not wanted. And to counteract them, the remedies which I undertook were more dangerous than the disease itself. So I drift from one point to another birth after birth, and I pray to You therefore to give me a shelter at Your lotus feet.”
Srimad-bhagavatam 1:19:20 Purport

H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Sunday 15 May 2011--Don't Forget Who You Are--and--Who Created God?
A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course(TM) Sunday 15 May 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: Don't Forget Who You Are Uploaded from Bhaktivedanta Ashram--Austin, Texas USA The material atmosphere of the present day human society is so heavily surcharged with illusion that it is very difficult to remember your actual identity as an eternal spiritual being, who is qualitatively one with Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore if you want to remain fixed in your real identity, you need to take shelter of a bona fide spiritual master and always associate with self-realized transcendentalists, the Lord's devotees, as much as possible. This good association will save you from illusion. If you remain in this good association, you will not forget that you are Krishna's eternal servant, and you will be a liberated soul even while conducting seemingly mundane activities in this material world. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Revealing the Eternal Identity of the Self 28 April 2011--Vilnius, Lithuania http://www.backtohome.com/images/2011-Spring/Vilnius_Lecture2.JPG Answers According to the Vedic Version: Question: Who Created God? In one of your mails you said, Everything comes out of something. What about God? Did He also come out of something? If yes , then from where did His creator come, and so on? If no, then how He became the first one to be self created? How did He get all the powerful energies? Kindly reveal the truth, if any. Regards, R.K. Answer: God Krishna or God does not come out of nothing. He comes out of something. That something is His very self, since He is the original something or substance from which everything is emanating. He does not have to become what He is because He is always that, the ultimate source of everything. He does not have to acquire His powerful energies because they are eternally in His possession. There is no question of if any truth. We are revealing the Absolute Truth every day intensely hoping for that day when our message will go viral and all persons will be reawakened to their original, natural state of pure enlightened consciousness, Krishna consciousness. May that day come soon. Mukunda Charan das, SA: First Visit To Chowpatty Temple
Sri Sri Radha-Gopinath Mandir, Mumbai
It was on a warm October morning ten years ago that I first visited Sri Sri Radha-Gopinath Temple in Chowpatty. ISKCON Chowpatty is now famous throughout the world for its warm Vaisnava hospitality and rich spiritual culture.
A disciple of His Holiness Giriraja Swami, Krishna-kirtan prabhu, had told me about this really simple temple about 45 minutes from the centre of Mumbai. He had also given me some audio tapes of classes by His Holiness Radhanath Maharaja’s (the project’s leader).
Yasomatinandan prabhu and I made our way by bus from St. Joseph’s College, around the corner from ISKCON Juhu, to Andrew Wilson College. That was our landmark. Somehow or other, we alighted near Babulnath Mandir, and took a right down a road unknown to us. That was my first taste of Indian street-life. Next thing we were in front of a run-down metal gate and a building that looked more like a school than a temple. Just as well I had learnt devanagari and could read the fading sign – ‘Sri Sri Radha-Gopinath Mandir.’ This was it! This was Chowpatty Temple!
As we climbed the stairs, we could hear the strains of the guru-puja prayers: sri guru carane rati, ei sei uttama gati (‘attachment to the lotus feet of the spiritual master is the perfection that fulfills all desires’). We offered obeisances and joined the kirtan. I can still see His Holiness Radhanath Maharaja standing on the edge of the kirtan with outstretched hands. There were about fifteen brahmacaris in the kirtan (nowadays there are about 100!). We also had the good fortune of hearing Bhagavatam from Radhanath Maharaja. After class, we chanted japa in the temple room (quiet meditation on the maha-mantra on prayer-beads), then took breakfast.
Navakishore prabhu (from Mauritius) was our host. He took us to a little guest room next to the brahmacari classroom. I remember the straw mats on the floor. The room was also spacious. Govinda prabhu gave Bhagavad-gita class. After Govinda spoke, Yaso spoke for about ten minutes. We took prasadam (a sanctified vegetarian meal meaning ‘mercy of God’) and rested. Most of the devotees I met that day are still around – Sankirtan prabhu, Sanat-Kumar prabhu, Govinda prabhu, Saci-Kumar prabhu and Govinda prabhu. The devotees were so friendly and blissful I thought to myself, ‘I want to be like them.’
Ten years have passed. There have been a lot of changes. The building, for one, is now exclusively owned by the Temple – no schools, no internet cafes, no offices. There is more room now – then, again, there are more devotees! The Temple room has been beautifully decorated and transformed under the personal supervision of Radhanath Maharaja. You can really feel the presence of Radha-Gopinath. Srila Prabhupada looks like he is beaming.
I remember inviting a hip young German couple to the Temple in 2001. The girl covered her head with a light cloth, sat on her knees, gazed out at the Deities and just cried for about ten minutes! Despite all the opulence, the devotees have maintained their culture of simplicity and humility. I am always very touched whenever I visit Chowpatty…it is a wonderful Temple.

CC Madhya 7.66: "I could not realize when I first spoke with Rāmānanda Rāya that his topics and endeavors were all transcendentally uncommon. I made fun of him simply because he was a Vaiṣṇava."

CC Madhya 4.116: When the brāhmaṇa priest was questioned about this matter, he explained in detail what kinds of foods were offered to the Deity of Gopīnātha.
CC Madhya 4.117: The brāhmaṇa priest said, "In the evening the Deity is offered sweet rice in twelve earthen pots. Because the taste is as good as nectar [amṛta], it is named amṛta-keli.
CC Madhya 4.118: "This sweet rice is celebrated throughout the world as gopīnātha-kṣīra. It is not offered anywhere else in the world."
CC Madhya 4.119: While Mādhavendra Purī was talking with the brāhmaṇa priest, the sweet rice was placed before the Deity as an offering. Hearing this, Mādhavendra Purī thought as follows.
CC Madhya 4.120: "If, without my asking, a little sweet rice is given to me, I can then taste it and make a similar preparation to offer my Lord Gopāla."

Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: Shakespeare cannot help us in writing
The grama-kavi, mundane poet, even a so called great poet like Shakespeare cannot help us in writing transcendental literature. If you want to look at his verse technique for improving your use of language you may, but it is risky because their ideas will spoil your presentation of pure devotional service. What you have done is nice, go on with it, publish in Back to Godhead as you are able, and try to become a first class devotee. Without being a devotee, your writing will not stand.

Anyone who has a natural tendency for rejecting sense gratification is considered to be advanced or liberated in spiritual life. Your appreciation of maya as false and Krsna as the only reality is a great asset. Nobody has ever gained anything by becoming a tool in the hands of maya, but everyone has become eternally happy by serving Krsna.

Please do your duty combinedly without any disruption of peaceful attitudes among yourselves. We are pushing our movement on the background of a peaceful atmosphere in the world, and if we show a little disturbance in our own camp that will not be a very good example. Therefore, everyone should be forbearing, tolerant and cooperative. That is my special request to you all.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): 310—Poem for May 14
4:45 A.M.
A Writer of Pieces
New format—I will begin with a poem written on the day of its printing. Then I will print random excerpts of books I have printed over the last 35 years. I hope this variety will be pleasing.
Poem for May 14
I woke at 2:30 with
pain in my head. The meds
couldn’t subdue it, and I
chanted all my rounds in stress.
Baladeva asks me if I’m
chewing on anything, I say, ‘No
except anticipation of the
guests.’ Nitai and Haryasva
are arriving today, and I will
have to perform.
Also today Manohar comes
and he and Baladeva will work
in the yard placing the plants in
the ground. I will have to
entertain the guests, inquire
into their lives, read with
them.
The headache has finally
gone down, and the pain
in my ankle is less than
yesterday when I couldn’t
even walk. I should be
thankful things are tolerable
and meet my guests
with cheerfulness.
Only by devotional service
can one reach the Lord.
Jnana or mystic yoga
will not do. You have
to dig on the eastern side
to find the hidden treasure.
Otherwise wasps or yaksas
will attack you or you’ll
be swallowed by a black snake.
My song is simple
from a lively, happy
place. It’s music improvised
by players in the art.
They are my friends and
lift my spirits so I can
convey to you good feelings
in the service of the Lord.
Bhakti is freely given
and received by submissive
hearers who swing with
my offering made
in supplication and
service to the Muse.
H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): OLD STORIES
From Prabhupada Meditations, Volume II
“Hairs standing on end
“I just did a radio interview with a man named Asoka who operates a radio show. He briefed me before that he had been reading Planting the Seed and wanted to hear some memories of my association with Prabhupada. Right away I thought, ‘This is it, an opportunity to do what I said I wanted to do—remember in a relaxed way memories of Prabhupada, even though they may be canned.’
“He started out by saying that he had read how I had gotten out of the Navy, moved to the Lower East Side, saw the storefront, and attended a lecture. I began it once again. I said, ‘We called him Swamiji.’ I said there was no other attraction in 26 Second Avenue. The room was bare. We sat on the floor and he sat on the floor, and he looked very exotic to me. He looked like Buddha.
“Asoka then asked me, ‘So you went up to Swamiji’s loft in the back and asked him if you could do service?’
“I said, ‘Well, these things happened gradually. First I visited and attended his lectures, then eventually I asked a question in class, and then I went and bought books.’ I told these incidents briefly. ‘And then I asked for service, to do his typing.’
“Asoka said that listening to these reminiscences, the hairs on his body were romancita. ‘Romancita,’ he said, ‘means “standing on end.”’ This made me think that there is something authentic about Prabhupada memories, even when you say them for a radio audience and you tell the same story again.
“As I told my piece, I was not feeling disgusted or in a fabricating mood. I knew that I was not in trance or completely in touch, as I would like to be. But it was a welcome exercise, and I would like to be able to do it more and more, tell that same story. Yes, go around the world telling the same story. Don’t be disgusted if next week somewhere else, someone says, ‘I understand you were with ISKCON from the beginning. And you met Prabhupada. Can you tell us about it?’ Don’t reply, ‘I just told this a few days ago, and I am tired of telling it. I can’t remember anyway, and my memories are just canned.’
“I used to make replies like that. But people want some nectar, and you should not deny them. I do not want to be a ‘nectar-miser,’ and so I am going to talk more generously with faith in Prabhupada memories.
“Sometimes my audience may become bored. If they say, ‘I’ve heard this too many times before,’ then let them say it. I want to recall these memories and find people who will listen with love and attention. Then I will humbly tell these stories. I will not put myself in the center, but through myself I will remember Swamiji.
“As I told the story on the radio, I was trying to choose the right words. The right combination of words can help unlock some of the doors of memory. For example, I told how I first bought the Bhagavatams from the Swami. I said that after I had purchased them, he told me to ‘“Sit down and hear the philosophy.” I told the Swami that I had to go, ‘and he saw that I was too restless to sit down and hear the philosophy.’ Usually when telling this story, I don’t say that I was restless, but I emphasize the fact that I had to get back to work. It is true, however, that I was also restless. If I were a real seeker of the truth and the guru told me to sit down, why wouldn’t I have sat down and heard from him? I describe myself today as restless, and it was true.
“Even if you don’t get new flashes while remembering the same stories, yet you retain your memories by telling them. It is something to share. If people say that their hairs are standing on end when you tell them about Prabhupada, that means it is good preaching. How many times have people told you that when you speak the Bhagavad-gita their hairs stand on end?
“Therefore, what for me seems to be just a routine retelling can be effective preaching. People may become interested by hearing the origins of the Krishna consciousness movement. They want to see a live person from that time. In the days when there were still survivors from the American Civil War, it was fascinating to hear their impressions of the cannons and the sight of the Confederate armies, etc. When you heard it from them, you felt you were there. So use yourself: as a veteran of the beginning of the Krishna consciousness movement in America, freely tell these stories.”
From Memory in the Service of Krishna
Who is Krishna?
“‘In these Western countries, when someone sees the cover of a book like Krishna, he immediately asks, “Who is Krishna? Who is the girl with Krishna?” etc. The immediate answer is that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. How is that? Because He conforms in exact detail to descriptions of the Supreme Being, the Godhead. In other words, Krishna is the Godhead because He is all-attractive.’ (Preface to Krishna, Twelfth edition, p. xi)
“Some devotees said that lecturing in college classrooms was ‘Krishna-conscious sense gratification.’ By that they meant that it was a very pleasurable exercise for the preacher. I liked classroom lecturing because it was a polite setting, unlike the book distribution on the streets or airports, which seemed to require the efforts of a gladiator against lions. For some devotees it was scary to face a room full of smirking, bored, distracted American students. But once you got used to it, it was a gratifying challenge to pit your wits and whatever devotion you had against the combined forces of the audience. Your presentation had to be couched in an academic way, not like a sermon to the faithful. Step by step you proceeded into transcendence.
“I usually started by describing the Bhagavad-gita as the authoritative Sanskrit text of Indian spirituality. I avoided saying bluntly, ‘It’s five thousand years old,’ because I knew that would turn off the professor. I continued by saying, ‘You’re not this body,’ giving the usual examples. Although those examples have become quite tired out for presentation to fellow devotees in the Bhagavatam class, they were nevertheless brilliant and strong analogies, and I never refrained from repeating them before a new audience. (‘If I ask you who you are, you will say, “I am a man,” or “I am a woman,” or “I am an American,” or you will give your family name. But these are all false designations. They are like coverings of the real self. The real self is called atma, eternal spirit soul.’) I would proceed describing the soul and the Supreme Soul (‘Krishna is a name of God and it means “all-attractive.”’)—and all this had to be done in twenty five minutes, leaving fifteen minutes for questions. If I was bold, I might end the session with a demonstration of the maha-mantra, writing the words ‘man’ and ‘tra’ on the blackboard and asking the class to join me in the singing meditation.
“Another subtle but bold act by a lecturer was to place a large picture of Krishna on the ledge which usually held chalk and erasers to be viewed during the lecture. One time when I had lectured with the picture of Krishna behind me, the college instructor asked me, ‘What’s with all the jewelry on Krishna?”
He went on to say that jewelry symbolizes the opposite of what we would expect to see on a spiritual person, who was supposed to be humble and renounced. I was struck because no one had ever asked me before about Lord Krishna’s jewelry. I had learned whatever I knew of Krishna from Srila Prabhupada in the controlled atmosphere of his ashram. When I or others raised doubts before Srila Prabhupada, he always overpowered our skepticism by his great devotion and scholarship. Now here I was being asked to explain Krishna to a recognized intellectual and his students. Did I myself have doubts? I glanced back to the picture of Lord Krishna and especially noticed His necklace, pearls, and gold-and-bejeweled helmet. I replied that Lord Krishna was the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and so the jewelry on His body could not be considered as something that Krishna used to increase His prestige. He didn’t need it. In some of His incarnations, He also appeared as a poor mendicant. Lord Krishna’s body is sac-cid-ananda, completely transcendental, and His jewelry is also spiritual. It is not that the jewelry makes His body more beautiful, but the jewelry becomes more beautiful by being put on His body. That question was a hard one for me to answer, but my conviction created at least a standstill to any further debate as to why God wore jewelry.
“Keeping the picture in view also produced questions like, ‘It’s obvious that He’s an Indian version of a beautiful man, so how can He be God for everyone? And how come He’s blue?’ That one was easier, in fact, many questions were signals to the brain for glorifying the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ‘He is not Indian, He is a beautiful youth. Why shouldn’t God be young? God is not an old man with a beard. He is darkish like a fresh rain cloud, more beautiful than millions of Cupids. The artist has attempted to portray that description.’ Who knows exactly why they raised their hands? Maybe some hoped they would impress their professor. Maybe some wanted to defeat my presentation. And some were making the most glorious of all inquiries into Krishna-kathah. The picture of Krishna often drew the question, ‘What’s with the cows?’ That question was a sure signal to speak on the cruel habit of meat-eating, which I may have been too cautious to introduce during the lecture. Now this strong, important point could be made intelligently and compassionately by answering ‘What’s with the cows?’ Question: ‘Why is He fighting?’ Answer: ‘It’s not ordinary fighting, not like Vietnam. Sometimes God fights. Whoever He kills is liberated.’
“Sometimes I got the question Srila Prabhupada has written in the preface to the Krishna book: ‘Who’s the girl with Krishna?’ This was another chance to explain that a woman is the most exalted of all God’s devotees, and you could utter Her holy name into the dry air of the University of Iowa: ‘Radharani is the best devotee of Krishna.’
“Usually the students and the instructor appreciated your presentation. When the bell rang, they all rushed out. If you were lucky enough to have an assistant, he was busy selling books, or if your class was subsidized, you could give out Back to Godhead magazines and prasadam. We used to say, ‘I made these cookies myself, so everyone please take one.’ They would say thank you sincerely, sometimes shake your hand, and that was it—another case of ‘Krishna-conscious sense gratification’ with no apparent big results. But there are always good results when you tell people about Krishna.
“College and high school lecturing on Krishna consciousness is important. People have become fulltime devotees starting with hearing of Krishna from that strange visitor to their classroom. The classroom lecturer plants seeds. He also purifies his own heart and receives training how to present Krishna consciousness in an objective way, without the usual assumption he shares with his audience in the temple.
“I was a traveling classroom lecture in the years when brainwashing and deprogramming were first taken seriously, and now it has become worse. But when a group of students meet a devotee face to face, and when that devotee smiles and says, ‘No, we are not brainwashed,’ it has a powerful effect.
“‘Who is Krishna?’ ‘Who is the girl with Krishna?’ ‘Why the jewelry?’ ‘Why the cows?’ ‘Why is God a young bluish man?’ ‘Because,’ Srila Prabhupada writes, ‘He has the opulence of Bhagavan. Krishna’s life, as recorded by Srila Vyasadeva, demonstrates that from the moment of His appearance to the moment of His disappearance, every moment of His activities was unparalleled in the history of the world, and therefore anyone who knows what we mean by Godhead will accept Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.’
“Another important reason why we accept Krishna as the supreme is because ‘according to the Vedic literatures and according to the great acaryas, the authorized persons versed in knowledge of God in all ages, acaryas like Sankara, Ramanuja, Madhva, Vishnusvami, Lord Caitanya and all their followers by disciplic succession, all unanimously agree that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.’
As you heard from Srila Prabhupada and read in the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and Krishna book, and as Krishna gave you confidence in your own heart, so you became convinced enough to stand before a group and tell them. ‘Krishna is the name of God which means “all attractive.” It’s in all the Vedas, and the maha-mantra appears in a verse in the Svetasvatara Upanisad. His holy name was chanted by Lord Caitanya, who asked everyone to chant. There is no other means of God realization in the age of Kali. Krishna is the summum bonum. Krishnas tu bhagavan svayam.

Lord Krsna continued, "My dear best of the queens, it is clearly understood by Me that you have no material ambition; your only purpose is to serve Me, and you have long been engaged in unalloyed service. Exemplary unalloyed devotional service not only can bestow upon the devotee liberation from this material world, but it also promotes him to the spiritual world for being eternally engaged in My service. Persons who are too addicted to material happiness cannot render such service. Women whose hearts are polluted and full of material desires devise various means of sense gratification while outwardly showing themselves to be great devotees.
"My dear honored wife, although I have thousands of wives, I do not think that any one of them can love Me more than you. The practical proof of your extraordinary position is that you had never seen Me before your marriage; you had simply heard about Me from a third person, and still your faith in Me was so fixed that even in the presence of many qualified, rich and beautiful men of the royal order, you did not select any one of them as your husband but insisted on having Me. You neglected all the princes present, and very politely you sent Me a confidential letter inviting Me to kidnap you. While I was kidnapping you, your elder brother Rukmi violently protested and fought with Me. As a result of the fight, I defeated him mercilessly and disfigured his body. At the time of Aniruddha's marriage, when we were all engaged in playing chess, there was another fight with your brother Rukmi on a controversial verbal point, and My elder brother Balarama finally killed him. I was surprised to see that you did not utter even a word of protest over this incidence. Because of your great anxiety that you might be separated from Me, you suffered all the consequences without speaking even a word. As the result of this great silence, My dear wife, you have purchased Me for all time; I have become eternally under your control. You sent your messenger to Me inviting Me to kidnap you, and when you found that there was a little delay in My arriving on the spot, you began to see the whole world as vacant. At that time you concluded that your beautiful body was not fit to be touched by anyone else; therefore, thinking that I was not coming, you decided to commit suicide and immediately end that body. My dear Rukmini, such great and exalted love for Me will always remain within My soul. As far as I am concerned, it is not within My power to repay you for your unalloyed devotion to Me."

Radhanath Swami lecture at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvardwhen something he said stuck. He quoted Ananda Mayi Ma, “Love is everlasting forgiveness.”
I didn’t jot it down and although I remembered the gist of it, forgot who said it or the exact wording. During the Festival of Inspiration I ran into him in a hallway and asked for a requote, which he was so kind as to oblige me.
As I have an interest in the concept of forgiveness (see my post Forgiveness is giving up hope for a better past) I made the comment that forgiveness was more of a Christian concept and that Srila Prabhupada didn’t say much about it. I stated this based on a Vedabase search using forgiveness as the search term and not getting many results.
Radhanath disagreed and said that wherever Prabhupada said tolerance he was talking about forgiveness. That was quite an insight for me that I am still digesting, but makes for a very interesting new angle when reading Srila Prabhupada’s body of work.

Bharatavarsa.net: Book distribution seminar: New BD lectures, Italy TSKP , and a story from Rome
Hare Krsna Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Recently the ISKCON Desire Tree website has added a number of book distribution lectures. Most were given by senior book distributors from around the world during the Mayapur festival; a few were given by me in various countries on my way to Mayapur. To find them, just go to www.iskcondesiretree.net, find the book distribution category, and open it up. You'll see the new ones.
I'm in Rome now, associating with the sankirtan devotees and giving some seminars. One of the most amazing projects in ISKCON is happening right here. A team of ten devotees headed by Bhakti Shakti Prabhu have from their sankirtan efforts acquired three diesel trucks, three motor homes, and two vansÑall bought new and paid for. They even have a cow, Surabhi, that travels with them (and I must say she's the most affectionate cow I've ever come across). They travel around Italy distributing books and putting on festivals. One of the diesel trailers opens up to a stage, another is a beautiful temple room, and the third holds the tons of books they distribute throughout the year. They also have two tents: a small one that attaches to the temple, and a huge one that holds over a thousand people. This group of devotees developed out of the Catania temple and thus was going under the name "Catania, Italy, Temple." Catania is in Sicily, but they are practically never in Sicily, so I suggested they change the name of their program to "Italy TSKP." (TSKP stands for 'traveling sankirtan party.') They agreed, so "Italy TSKP" is how they will be known from now on.
Now for a story from Rome. One Sunday the temple president, Lilananda Prabhu, was speaking to a guest who began spouting all kinds Mayavadi nonsense. As he droned on, Lilananda became more and more angry to hear the garbage coming out of his mouth. Then a bhakta named Corrado came by and began listening to the man. Corrado said to the man, "I think the solution is that you should purchase a Srimad-Bhagavatam set." The man asked about it, and Bhakta Corrado briefly described it. The man then asked how much it was, heard the price of $300, and said, "All right, I'll take it." Lilananda's jaw hit the ground. He couldn't believe that this total Mayavadi, whom he was just seconds earlier so furious at, would on a moment's notice buy an entire Srimad-Bhagavatam set, 27 books. And on top of that, from a new bhakta!
Just goes to show how merciful Lord Caitanya is.

Book Distribution News: New BD lectures, Italy TSKP , and a story from Rome
