H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Thursday 2 June 2011--Onwards to Mauritius--and--Did Prabhupada Name Next Acharya?

A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course Thursday 2 June 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: Onwards to Mauritius Uploaded from Sofia, Bulgaria After a wonderful week of sharing the nectar of Krishna consciousness here in Bulgaria, we are heading out today for Mauritius via an overnight stop in London to make our connecting flight. Considering that Krishna consciousness is best tasted in the association of Krishna's devotees, our visit here, packed up in small house full of devotees, has certainly been a sumptuous feast. The beauty of Krishna consciousness is that it connects us with our actual eternal identities, which exist forever far beyond the confines of time and space. Once one gets a taste of his real identity, he will never want to come back to his miserable false identity ever again. Sankarshan Das Feasting on the Holy Names at the Sofia Airport http://www.backtohome.com/images/2011-Spring/Sofia_Airport.JPG Answers According to the Vedic Version: Question: Did Prabhupada Name Next Acharya? Is Srila Prabhupada still the diksha (initiating) guru of ISKCON? During his presence on this planet did Srila Prabhupada announce anyone to be the next acharya (diksha guru)? What are the qualities a disciple should possess in order to be the sishya(follower or student) of Srila Prabhupada? G.R. Answer: All of His Disciples who Strictly Follow Him In Vrindavan, India on 18 October 1977 shortly before his departure from this world Srila Prabhupada informed us that he would no longer give diksha (initiation). Srila Prabhupada is therefore the diksha guru or initiating spiritual master only for those devotees who took initiation before 18 October 1977. Srila Prabhupada instructed us also in May 1977 that after his departure the new devotees who join this movement should become the disciples of his disciples. Therefore those ISKCON devotees who have accepted initiation after 18 October 1977 are the disciples of Srila Prabhupada's disciples. They are not directly Srila Prabhupada's disciples. Srila Prabhupada did not name any particular disciple to be the next acharya. Rather he taught us that any disciple who is strictly following him becomes the next acharya. This means that there can many branches of acharya coming in Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON tree. He taught us this principle in many times and places again and again. Here is one occasion from a lecture he gave in New York on 1 December 1966: So Krishna also, as spiritual master of Arjuna, He played. He is the original acharya. Then acharya's disciple becomes acharya when he assimilates the knowledge received from bona fide acharya. So he becomes bona fide to act as an acharya. Evam parampara-praptam [Bg. 4.2]. Acharya means one who has become a rigid disciple of his acharya. Just like a critical student under a professor, he becomes a first-class professor, similarly, a person who is a very rigid student of bona fide acharya, he becomes next acharya. Anybody who chants the Hare Krishna mahamantra at least 16 rounds daily on japa mala beads and strictly avoids illicit sex, meat eating, intoxication, and gambling, as well as regularly reading and following Srila Prabhupada's books is a first class follower of Srila Prabhupada and is fully qualified to take initiation into his sampradaya (disciplic succession) by becoming the disciple of one of his disciples. Japa Group: Taking Shelter

Hare Krsna dear devotees, I noticed today how important is praying and how we can try to manage our thoughts and relate them to Krsna any time of the day. We may often face struggle and difficulties but these situations are only here to remind us of how important is to depend on the Lord and on chanting. I saw a quote from Srila Prabhupada today saying that if we read his books and chant the Holy Names our lives will be sublime.

So we should always be engaged in following his intructions and even when things do not go well in our lives that is actually the Lord`s mercy to get advanced and move foward, taking shelter of the holy names and the vaisnavas.

your servant,

Aruna devi

ISKCON Melbourne, AU: Today's Darsana

02/06/2011

"He is eternally engaged in designing ever-fresh variations of His youthful form, mode of dress, and loving pastimes. He is surrounded by the assembly of His cowherd boyfriends, who excel in giving Him delight by their playful joking words.

Even a single brilliant ray of splendour from His personal pleasure-forest defeats the heavenly Nandana gardens of Lord Indra. May Sri Krsna, the Son of the king of cowherd men, grant me the service of His own lotus feet."

(From Govinda-lilamrita by Krsnadasa Kaviraja Goswami.)

May Sri Krsna, the Son of the king of cowherd men, always grant us His glorious darsana.

Dear Maharaja,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
I like your concept of real community, as far as all the devotees supporting the farming.
The situation here is quite different unfortunately. Too much milk, not enough buyers. Frustrating.
The situation here is quite different unfortunately. Too much milk, not enough buyers. Frustrating.
You have the right vision I really do believe, in many areas. It’s a pity you’re not able to expand yourself, and give the people elsewhere some association.
I can tell the devotees here till I’m blue in the face, but I have no standing, but the majority wo’nt listen. What will it take?
Anyway, I’m with you all the way Maharaja, hope to see you again before too long,
your insignificant servant,
Adikarta das

Caitanya Mangala, CA, USA: KulimeLA 2009: Ananta Vrindavan Performing A Capella at the Ford Theater in Hollywood

Video of Ananta Vrindavan singing an a capella combo of “Je Anilo Prema Dhana” & “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” during the KulimeLA 2009 Gala Evening at the Ford Theater in Hollywood. He dedicated his performance to “the memory of loved ones we’ve lost as a way to invoke their presence in our hearts.”

In the ancient Sanskrit language, “Kuli Mela” is “A Celebration of Community.”

The main theme for KulimeLA 2009 was to “Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present & Envision the Future.”

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles Gurukuli Reunion, the John Anson Ford Amphitheater, nestled in the Hollywood Hills, was chosen as an ideal location for Kulis to come together to acknowledge their collective history and appreciate the many accomplishments of the pioneer Gurukulis throughout the past two decades.

Dressed in formal and elegant attire, approximately one thousand Vaishnavas gathered to walk the red carpet and participate in an amazing evening that beautifully showcased “A Mosaic of Our Generations.”

The Kuli Mela Association is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to connect our diverse and dynamic global community. We believe that by encouraging each other along our individual paths and by serving together in our shared goals we can make a positive difference in the world.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): 328—Poem for June 1

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

4:19 A.M.

A Writer of Pieces

New format—I will begin with the poem written on the day of its printing. Then I will print random excerpts of books I have published over the last 35 years. I hope this variety will be pleasing.

Poem for June 1st

I woke up very early June
1st and began chanting not
immersed in Krishna-lila but counting
the quota without missing any chanting
up to sixteen rounds all the mantras
in place, it’s an accomplishment,
don’t be sarcastic although you are
humbled.

Uddhava told Vidura to go inquire
from Maitreya, because although Uddhava
was a confidential devotee, Maitreya
was senior and older and one should
never be ambitious to act as guru
in the presence of an older sadhu.
That is the etiquette and Maitreya was
qualified because he had been present
and heard directly from the Lord.

The morning walk did not go well.
By 9:00 A.M. it was already hot
and sunny, the dew still wet
in the grass. I grew tired
and sweaty and didn’t want
to walk past one lap,
we stopped. Perhaps we will
go out earlier before it’s
so hot.

I shared poems
with Narayana, he wrote one
nondogmatic in which he challenged himself,
‘Why do you think
you are better than younger devotees
just because your senses are
worn out?’ He says a reader
might challenge like that, he
used logic to argue his point,
disarmingly admitting he
wasn’t advanced. He liked my
poem addressed not to Krishna but
to readers seamlessly telling them
what I do and who I am.

The poem has redeeming
qualities and music played
for Krishna’s satisfaction.
The notes are squeezed out
and in rhythm, I want
to be Krishna conscious and yesterday
listened to a lecture Prabhupada gave explaining there are two
souls in the heart, the occupier
and the proprietor. I believed
it all and became enriched
with the knowledge. I will listen
to more today. It is
brahma-sabda, truth
by hearing as you hear
this song, and it
tells you Krishna’s melodies,
and you accept them
submissively as true
form. It’s the
power of sound
coming pleasantly to the
soul.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): OLD FRIENDS

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

From The Wild Garden

Italy

“There are scars on this old Italian table. We are always moving into places where others have lived and died. I write at their tables. We overturn dresser drawers and use them to eat on. We close their shutters and walk in their yards. I heard this used to be a priest’s house, and that he was connected with the nearby church. We don’t plan to visit there.

“Don’t stop to figure it out. Remember? You write sentences before you even know what they will be, unafraid that they may start and sometimes end with no obvious Krishna conscious content. Millions of sentences, like wriggling worms in the earth, or big bees that startle you. They have their own world. Don’t be afraid.

“I don’t dare take down the large drawing of Christ’s crucifixion which is hanging in this room. Neither do I meditate on it. I allow it to stay and make its statement. It seems to be a kind of background statement. Srila Prabhupada often cited Christ’s giving up his life as the best example of the tolerant pure devotee whose ‘only fault’ was that he preached God consciousness. Christ did not even condemn his enemies as they killed him. What a high standard. His influence in the world is no joke. (Conversations with Srila Prabhupada, Volume 30, p. 310)

“I like this room because it is airy and light. When I chant japa here I don‘t have to worry about waking anyone. I don’t chant loudly, but I could. I prefer to chant softly alone. I make a nice indirect lighting in effect with one small lamp on the floor behind me in a corner and two votive candles on the altar. At least the external situation is nice. I stay awake and give myself ample time to chant.

“Chanting is the most auspicious activity. Even uttered imperfectly, the holy name takes away sins and their reactions, more than we could commit. The acaryas recommend it as the most direct path to love of God. So put aside other concerns and just hear. Hear your voice sounding the Hare Krishna mantra. Think of Krishna—anything about Him at all—whatever you have heard from Srila Prabhupada.

“Anything at all.

“‘Be yourself. Ask for what you want. Don’t let my opinion sway you or pressure you into thinking you should be something I want to be.’ Someone said that to me yesterday.

“What is it that I’d like to be that’s being denied me? I want to be a devotee enriched with bhakti. No one is standing in my way except myself and the whole world, which is engineered to keep souls in bondage. In prison if someone asks, ‘What’s preventing you from being your blissful self?’ it comes off as a bad joke.

“I want to make a quantum leap. That means letting Krishna take over. If I could just stop being concerned with performance, with my bodily inconveniences, what is being said in the room—I rise to the occasion of a Krishna conscious life.

“At the time of death, humility and honesty can save us. We have been dedicated to our spiritual master’s mission, and we may have been modest about that within the wave of truth: we have not attained devotion to Krishna and guru. We’ll be fortunate if such a thought should occur to us. Then we can regret our fallen condition and beg for forgiveness and mercy. We can beg to again try to serve the devotees.

“Honesty is important because Krishna sees through all poses. He knows what we want, and He awards us accordingly. We beg Him not to award us on that basis. We beg Him to disregard our desires for sense gratification and liberation. We beg Him to honor what little bhakti we have attained. We beg Him to increase that small store of devotion.

“Who needs a theme other than impending death? ‘Again offering obeisances unto all you brahmanas, I pray that if I should take my birth in the material world, I will have complete attachment to the unlimited Lord, association with His devotees and friendly relations with all living beings.’ (Bhagavatam 1.19.16)

“Srila Prabhupada writes, ‘Maharaja Pariksit was certainly going back to Godhead, but even if he were not to go back he prayed for a pattern of life which is the most perfect way in the material world. A pure devotee does not desire the company of a personality as great as Brahma, but he prefers the association of a petty living  being, provided he is a devotee of the Lord.’ (Bhagavatam 1.19.16, purport)

“‘You are the spiritual master of great saints and devotees. I am therefore begging you to show the way of perfection for all persons, and especially for one who is about to die.’ (Bhagavatam 1.19.37)

“Srila Prabhupada: ‘The question put forward by Maharaja Pariksit is the basic principle for the complete thesis of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Now let us see how intelligently the great master replies.’

“This is my subject, my theme, should I wish to have one. I am frantically writing in the face of death: ‘Please let me know what a man should hear, chant, remember and worship, and also what he should not do. Please explain all this to me.’ (Bhagavatam 1.19.38)

“Later Sukadeva Gosvami will reply variyan esa te prasnah, your question is glorious. As someone competent to tell you about Krishna at the time of your death, now. Let us see how intelligently the spiritual master replies.

“As I write this, I see Lord Krishna’s photo on my desk. He is sitting with His Radha on a throne in a Vrndavana grove. The message is implicit. Those who can see Krishna entering the forest of Vrndavana playing His flute, with wildflower decorations on His turban, accompanied by His gopas and cows, have attained the perfection of sight.”

From Japa Transformations

“Buddhists sometimes speak of emptiness. We speak of separation. We know Your names and faces and forms and Your place of residence. We theoretically know what we would do with You when we join with You in some future birth. We long to be with You in Your yugala-kisora as Radha and Krishna. We have heard of Your appearance as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and we have heard that this is Your most merciful (audarya) form. In this form, You fully distribute love of God. There is no emptiness in Your abode or in the process to reach You. The means and the goal is the chanting of Hare Krishna. As I consider these facts, I begin to understand that there is no reason for me to feel bereft or neglected. You are with me if I want You. Please create the urge in me to desire Your company always and even if You do not appear before me, I will cry tears as symptoms of my love for You. Only a fool neglects the attempt to break his loneliness by reaching for You, Sri-Sri Radha-Krishna, Sri-Sri Gaura Nitai, and Srila Prabhupada and all the acaryas in disciplic succession.

“Where are You, Krishna? Are You hiding in my heart? Are You hiding in the kunjas? Why are You not before me? Are You trying to increase my love for You? But it’s awfully hard not to be with You now, not to see You, not to touch You. Where are You. I know You are everywhere—in the sun,  in the moon, in the water, on the beach. So the answer is given by You: You are everywhere. But I want to know where You are in Your Cowherd Form. Are You running somewhere with the boys? Are You off with the gopis? Where are You, Krishna? Please give me a hint so I can go there and be with You. Give me the privilege. Surely You will let me see You and be with You. It’s just a matter of time. This song is only four minutes and eleven seconds long. Is that enough time for me to meet You? Is that enough time for me to find You? Is that enough time for the answer to the question, ‘Where are You?’ I know You’re not playing games, at least not malicious games. You are teasing. You want me to increase my love before You appear to me. You want me to cry out with tears and yearning. Where are You? But I know You are present everywhere, so I’m really not bereft. I know You’re here. I’m just asking this question so You’ll be my hero when You appear in Your yellow dress, carrying a lotus. Then I’ll say, ‘Oh, there You are. Where were You all this time? Where were You? Thank You for appearing.’

“You can’t just cry forever. You have to let it calm down eventually. Return to some normalcy. But the gopis couldn’t stop crying, neither could Mother Yasoda. She cried until she became blind. When Krishna left them, they were in such sorrow out of separation that they couldn’t ‘dry.’

“What about ourselves? We rarely have tears? Sometimes we cry tears of self-pity or tears that we’re just sorry we are not better devotees. That’s rare and that’s good. Those tears eventually dry also. Tears are good. It’s good to cry for Krishna. Better that we ‘soak our couch with tears,’ as Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura said. You can’t actually do it, but that should be the mood. Gour-Govinda Maharaja used to say that Krishna consciousness was a ‘school for crying.’ Our hearts should be crying for the Lord. Crying out, as in crying out in kirtana, is another way to cry. Cry like the child cries for its mother. That’s the recommended method for chanting Hare Krishna. So Krishna consciousness is not a staid thing. It’s a yoga of emotion. We want to reach Krishna and Radha, and for now we can’t. Nothing to do about it but let the tears dry and hope they’ll come back again. Don’t resign yourself to just forgetting the whole thing and saying you’re not capable of crying to Krishna and there’s no use entering that emotion. Some people fake crying just to get a reputation. We’re not talking about that. We’re not talking about crocodile tears. Tears of joy, tears of sorrow, tears to Radha and Krishna.

“In The Nectar of Devotion, while discussing ‘Further Features of Ecstatic Love for Krishna,’ Srila Rupa Goswami quotes from the Hamsaduta: ‘One day, when Srimati Radharani was feeling much affliction because of Her separation from Krishna, she went to the bank of Yamuna with some of Her friends. There Radharani saw a cottage wherein She and Krishna had experienced many loving pleasures, and by remembering those incidents She immediately became overcome with dizziness. This dizziness was prominently visible.’ Srila Prabhupada remarks, ‘This is an instance of confusion caused by separation.’

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: HOW IT WOULD BE TO BECOME A GOSWAMINI?

By Nayana Manjari devi dasi, Temple Manager and Devotee Care, ISKCON Zurich

When we speak about any real yoga it always says that we should first
control our mind and senses before achieving any advancement, however, Bhakti Yoga path is a bit different because the goal is same as the path.

Indeed we practice the nine processes of devotional service (sravanam, kirtanam, etc.). If we follow this process with full faith and sincerely, then we purify our senses and mind to attain our goal which is pure sravanam kirtanam, where all our being is fully absorbed in Krsna with no danger to falldown.

In comparaison with other paths we can see that what Srila Prabhupada gave us is just the best. In other processes the mind and senses will be controlled artificially, supressed, and this does not work. The goswami is authentic by acknowledging his urges (vegam) but he just tolerates them.

The senses want to be engaged, so if they are not engaged in transcendantal devotional service, then as soon as an oportunity for sense gratification is available then thefall down is guaranted. To illustrate that we can remember the story of Visvamitra who became completely bewildered by the charm of Menaka.

And on the other side we have an example of Haridasa Thakura who was visited by an attractive woman in the middle of the night. Not only he remained fixed in his meditation, but he made the lady raise to the spiritual or transcendantal platform, where she became a pure devotee.

The senses are compared to snakes but when those senses are engaged in the service of the Lord then they lose their power as a serpent with broken teeth.

Sense gratificfation is the root cause of material existence, so as long as we can't control the urges of the senses and those of the mind there is no chance to progress toward spiritual realisation and make a real progress on the path of bhakti.

Srila Prabhupada used to say that "this process is very simple for the
simple people and very complicate for someone complicated". If we would just follow what Prabhupada gave us then we would have no problems, but the mind always tries to know better. So the first thing is that we should make friendship with our mind.

"For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends, but for one who has failed to do so ,his mind remain the greatest enemy. For one who has conquered the mind, the supersoul is already reached, for he has attained tranquillity. To such a man happiness and distress, heat and cold, honor and dishonor are all the same."
(Bhagavad-gita As It Is 6.6-7)

This year in India I had a very powerful realisation during the Navadvipa
Mandala Parikrama: at some point it was so much tapasya beetween the burning sun, the smoke and terrible noise of the boat's motor, the mosquitoes, the paining feets, the thirst, the cough etc...that actually I came to a state where it did not matter ,soudainely I felt not identified with my body and did not care for what was happening to it anymore...
So by that experience I could realise practically how I am not that mind and those senses, because by that tapasya, mind and senses stoped for some moments to have power over me, they were conquered by that tapasya; actually I wish to be in that state all the time.

Akrura Prabhu is preaching that even if you do not feel doing something (like attending a spiritual program) then do it anyway. Some years back for two months I was completely alone in South India, at the holy place of Sri Rangam. I tried this practice and was amazed what it brought me. When I did not feel like doing something I would just do it anyway and each time I got a wonderful life's gift. Once I did not feel like going to take darshan of Ranganath Swami, but I went anyway and I did not know it was Ratha Yatra and it was a most amasing and mystical experience. On a way back I met a brahmana who invited me to his family home for a lunch.

Another time I did not feel like going to the procession in the evening
but I went and there I met one of the highest priests of Lord Ranganatha, a descendant of Gopal Bhatta Goswami, and during my whole stay I would be invited to many events reserved for VIPs and have special darshan behind the altar gate, got special maha like the water squeezed from the Lord's dhoti, etc. I felt a special reciprocation from the Lord Himself. I had a very transcendal time over there, a special connection.

So my realization is that if I would not always follow the mind and senses my life would be much richer and lived 100%, whereas now the mind is still stopping me to really do what I want to do.

I want to stop doing the same mistakes again and again. I want to implement the following personnal daily programm and if I do not manage to do so, I will simply miss the goal of my life ... as simple as that!

My foremost desire is to progress steadily and check myself constantly to avoid lazziness and deviation. Than with the time passing, when Krsna sees that I am becoming more serious, all doors will open. Renunciation will come automatically by loosing the desire for whatever mundane taste remains in my being.

At the end of the journey, free from any regret, and liberated from the many temporary, foggy and sticky material entangelement, I will be ready for my next destination - wherever it is.

Turns His Back

The Canadian Shield, Ontario

In his book, "Miracle On Second Avenue" Makunda Goswami quotes Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" :

... "Tis a common proof,

That lowliness is young ambition's ladder,

Where to the climber-upward turns his face;

But when he once attains the upmost round,

He then onto the ladder turns his back,

Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees

By which he did ascend."

This description of Mukunda's past of "turning his back... Scorning the base degrees" is very much the story of everyone's life who joined the Swami, Srila Prabhupada, in his Mission in the late sixties and seventies, myself included. In deliberation of past errors I personally feel very relieved to put sin behind and feel no compulsion to revisit it outside the occasional mental perusal.

As our drama/kirtan group drove back home via the Trans Canada Highway through some real visits of splendour, of lakes, forests, and the most ancient rocks in the world I dwelt on the point Mukunda made. He shunned yesterday's illusions and looked to tomorrow's realities. Actually I have always admired Mukunda as an outstanding monk and devotee. Come to think of it, I have so many "cool" brothers and sisters. They are such savvy saints.

Stealing Blankets?

Thunder Bay, Ontario

I trekked down Golf Link Rd. when the local police approached me. It was a black police cab that pulled over. The officers were curious.

"Hello!" Said the passenger police. I was wearing my thick saffron hemp robes with my chauddar (monk's Shawl) wrapped around my upper body to address the morning chill.

"We got a report that someone was walking down the road with stolen blankets from the hospital," continued the officer. "But I guess..."

Before he could say it's a false alarm I cut in with an amused defensiveness while looking at my robes, "I'm actually a monk and these are my robes."

They then burst into laughter. I relayed how I was suspect as an escapee from a penitentiary where the inmates wear orange and on another occasion where I was suspect of being lost from a psychiatric ward. The report then was that I was with another person (it's true, another monk) and that we were old ladies.

The police laughed even more being informed that I go through this kind of stuff. We conversed and they went on their way wishing me a good stay in Thunder Bay.

At the Yogafest held at Lakehead University, friends from the New Age circles turned up. The event featured astanga yoga, laughter yoga and even japa yoga. One woman there Karen, is a teacher of ballet skiing. Serge, an elementary school teacher, has been reading the books of our guru, Srila Prabhupada, and appreciating their contents. Sweet folks!

It was so much a day of laughter and smiles. To culminate the program the bhakti (devotion) portion came into the hands of our troupe. Our drama, "The Jaganath Story" called for the entrance of the three deities of Jaganatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra; each appearing on the stage in a mystical way. As anyone who is familiar with them knows, there is something euphoric about these images. They sport oceanic smiles and with their varied colourations people came after the show with remarks came approving the point that God comes to represent the white races in the form of Balaram, the black races as Jaganatha and brownish pigmented folks as Subhadra.

At least that's how it came to be interpreted.

For my intro as emcee, I told the story of the suspect blanket thief and everyone had a good laugh.

Japa Group: Avoiding Offenses To Devotees

Avoiding offenses to devotees of Krsna is the first and one of the most important offenses to avoid. We tend to get familiar with our spiritual associates and may make offenses or with ease criticise this devotee or that. This is due to our bodily concept of life, thinking we are this body and basing our thinking on this. When we chant well....this bodily concept melts and we see each other as a spiritual soul and a servant of the Lord.

In terms of spiritual life, this offense is one of the biggest impediments for achieving the taste for chanting the Holy names. We need this reminder - that somehow or other we have to avoid offenses to devotees and then we can more easily avoid the other offenses by the Lord's grace.

"When a mad elephant enters a garden, it spoils all the fruits and flowers. Similarly, if one offends a Vaisnava, he spoils all his spiritual assets." SB 5.10.17 purport

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: Mood of Krishna conscious warrior - mental culture

The author of Bhakti-rasāmrita-sindhu, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī, very humbly submits that he is just trying to spread Krishna consciousness all over the world, although he humbly thinks himself unfit for this work. That should be the attitude of all preachers of the Krishna consciousness movement, following in the footsteps of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī. We should never think of ourselves as great preachers, but should always consider that we are simply instrumental to the previous ācāryas, and simply by following in their footsteps we may be able to do something for the benefit of suffering humanity....Those who are cultivating spiritual life and executing devotional service are always engaged in activity. Such activity can be performed with the body or with the mind. Thinking, feeling and willing are all activities of the mind, and when we will to do something, the activity comes to be manifest by the gross bodily senses. Thus, in our mental activities we should always try to think of Krishna and try to plan how to please Him, following in the footsteps of the great ācāryas and the personal spiritual master. There are activities of the body, activities of the mind and activities of speech. A Krishna conscious person engages his words in preaching the glories of the Lord. This is called kīrtana. And by his mind a Krishna conscious person always thinks of the activities of the Lord — as He is speaking on the Battlefield of Kurukshetra or engaging in His various pastimes in Vrindāvana with His devotees. In this way one can always think of the activities and pastimes of the Lord. This is the mental culture of Krishna consciousness.

Subuddhi Krishna dasa, Chicago, USA: Pearls of Wisdom - 268

Demigods pray to Lord Vishnu

O Lord, You assume incarnations for the creation, maintenance and dissolution of the cosmic manifestation, and therefore we all take shelter of Your lotus feet because they always award remembrance and courage to Your devotees.

O Lord, persons who are entangled by undesirable eagerness for the temporary body and kinsmen, and who are bound by thoughts of "mine" and "I," are unable to see Your lotus feet, although Your lotus feet are situated within their own bodies. But let us take shelter of Your lotus feet.

O great Supreme Lord, offensive persons whose internal vision has been too affected by external materialistic activities cannot see Your lotus feet, but they are seen by Your pure devotees, whose one and only aim is to transcendentally enjoy Your activities.

O Lord, persons who, because of their serious attitude, attain the stage of enlightened devotional service achieve the complete meaning of renunciation and knowledge and attain the Vaikuṇṭhaloka in the spiritual sky simply by drinking the nectar of Your topics.
