H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Wednesday 13 July 2011--Stranger at Home--and--How Can Krishna Not Know His Potency?

A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course Wednesday 13 July 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: Stranger at Home Uploaded from Bhaktivedanta Ashram, Austin, Texas USA 12 July 2011. We have just returned to our home base, Bhaktivedanta Ashram in Austin, Texas USA, after completing another around-the-world lecture tour. When I woke up this morning I could not figure out where I was. This was quite strange because when I am on the road I always know where I am immediately upon awakening. This reminded that this world is not my actual home. If it were, I would feel at home when I returned to my home. That I did not feel at home at home reminded me that my real home is somewhere else, the transcendental abode of Lord Sri Krishna in that unlimitedly splendorous spiritual sky. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Our Real Home--Goloka Vrindavana http://www.backtohome.com/images/Krishna_gopis.jpg Answers by Citing the Vedic Version: Question: How Can Krishna Not Know His Potency? Gurudeva, I request you to enlighten me on this phrase: The wonderful potency of the Supreme Lord Krishna is bewildering even to the jugglers. That potential power is unknown even to the self-sufficient Lord, so it is certainly unknown to others. --Srimad Bhagavatam-Canto 3, Chapter 6, Verse 39 Gurudeva, you have told us that Krishna is the Supreme. So how is this possible that Lord's potency is even unknown to the Lord Himself when He knows everything? Please enlighten me on this. Your servant, Archit Answer: Krishna's Dynamic Krishna Consciousness Even though Krishna is conscious of everything, His potency is always expanding even beyond His consciousness. Of course, His unlimited consciousness can catch up with His ever-expanding potency. But as soon as it does, His potency has expanded even more. So in this way His unlimited consciousness is never able to keep up with His ever-expanding potency. What this means that Krishna is always becoming more and more Krishna conscious. This confirms the fact that Krishna consciousness is dynamic and ever-expanding; it is not static, even for Krishna Himself, what to speak of for His devotees. In this way Krishna and His devotees are guaranteed to never become bored. ISKCON Melbourne, AU: Today's Darsana

13/07/2011

Lord Krsna's soft lotus feet and unrivalled charm are glorified Sanatana Goswami:

"While Your tender feet roam the forest, Your charms disturb the mind. The shortest moment apart from You seems as a long as a cosmic age..."

(Sri Krsna-lila-stava: The Gopis' song of separation).

Let Sri Krsna's feet roam the dense forest of our heart and may His soothing darsana pacify our mind.

Japa Group: Goals In Chanting

Today I was reading through my notes on the Japa Room - here are the goals of the Japa Room but actually we can make these our personal goals in our Japa. We can also personalise the list and add the things that will help to improve our chanting.

  • Become aware of the quality of our Chanting through proper hearing
  • Identify the obstacles that are counterproductive in our Japa
  • Develop good Japa habits
  • Continue to monitor our Japa, maintaining the good habits
  • Help others to achieve quality Japa
If you would like to join us for the Japa Room, please visit http://www.mayapur.tv and scroll down to the channel "TheJapaRoom" to see the times of the session.

Japa Group: Chant Chant Chant

It's the only way we can go back home to Godhead....as much as we don't want to chant and on occassion loathe this essential practise....Srila Prabhupada has told us to chant 16 attentive rounds and follow the 4 regulative principles and thereby guaranteed this is enough for us to join Krsna again in the spiritual world.

Vraja Kishor, JP: Gangsta Rap and Raganuga Bhakti

gangsta

Recently a very good friend asked: what does it mean to “practice affectionate emotions for Krsna.”

My reply:

In the 12th chapter of Gita, 8th and 9th texts there is a reply to your question, more or less. 8 says, “mayy eva mana ādhatsva mayi buddhiḿ niveśaya.” This describes the objective view of affectionate emotions for Krsna. The objective view is that when there are affectionate emotions for Krsna, the mind and intelligence will be entangled in Krsna. In other words it will be difficult to stop thinking about Krsna.

Text 9 says, “atha cittaḿ samādhātuḿ na śaknoṣi mayi sthiram. abhyāsa-yogena tato mām icchāptuḿ dhanañjaya.”

This means – if you cannot have affectionate emotions for me yet – do “abhyaasa” of those emotions – and this will give you the “iccha” to get them.

Abhyaasa means: drills, repetitions, habits, exersizes. Thus in other words text 8 says, “please do raganuga for me.” text 9 says, “if you cant, please do vaidhi for me.” What is vaidhi-sadhana – it is the exercise and practice and drills of the spontaneous emotions for Krsna.

To sum up – how do we practice affectionate emotions for Krsna? We take an activity which is *symptomatic* of emotion, and do it by force of will. In other words we intentionally emulate (since “imitate” has a bad connotation) the symptoms of emotion for Krsna. For example – the primary, primary primary symptom of being in love with someone is that you can not stop for a moment from thinking about and talking about that person. Therefore we practice this by willfully chanting japa and by doing Nama-rupa-guna-lila sankirtana AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, hopefully 18 hours a day, if not 24.

The result of imitating/emulating divine emotion is “iccha” – you get the strong “itch” the strong desire and ambition and conviction that, “I want the REAL THING.” This icha is synonymous with lobha – which is the key that opens the door to real emotional service to Krsna – raganuga sadhana.

To give a example, in closing, to bring it down to earth. Suppose an 8th grade boy starts talking like a “gangsta” – “yo, whaddup.” “yo ho, you look FIIIINE today.” “where my peeps at up in dis joint?” and all that ridiculous banter. At first it is just a pure imitation. He thinks the rappers on MTV are totally cool so he decides to imitate them as far as he is able. However as this imitation continues for a month or so, he starts to think, “yo dawg, i’m not legit… i need to take dis shizzle to da next level.” You see, by continued emulation/imitation it is entirely natural that one develops “iccha” to be more genuine and real and legit and get the real thing. Thus we find imitation and adulation of criminal-culture to be a warning sign that in a significant portion of the imitators, actual attitudes and behavior will change and soon it will no longer be an act for those who were more serious and passionate in their desire to emulate. This is the natural sequence of how something practiced becomes something internalized and is the similar psychological principle by which vaidhi SHOULD lead to raganuga if we do it well.

Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: A devotee does not command Krsna

It is not the position of the devotee to command the Supreme Personality of Godhead to come before him or to dance before him. There are many so-called devotees who command the Lord to come before them dancing. The Lord, however, is not subject to anyone's command, but if He is satisfied by one's pure devotional activities, He reveals Himself.

Madhavendra Puri, New Govardhana, AU: Won-Durr Boiz in Berlin

[The Won-Durr Boiz diary series is based on four ex-gurukuli brothers (surname: Durr) coming together for the first time to share Krsna consciousness with the outside world.  Madhavendra Puri (the author and middle elder) has been waiting in Radhadesh (Belgium) for his brothers to arrive.  Nitai Canda (the eldest) and Rupa Gosvami (the youngest) arrive first, and Bhisma Deva (the middle younger) is scheduled to come half way through.  Their adventure takes them through Belgium, Germany and Poland, for rathayatras, festival tours and kirtana events.  These diaries aim to bring inspiration and joy to the readers, and hopefully encourage others to entangle themselves in Lord Caitanya’s Sankirtana movement – whether for the spiritual benefits or simply for the fun.]

Monday 20th, June 2011.

Nitai was enthusiastically using the time in Berlin to keep up his schedule and morning program.  I was using the time to re-establish my reading of Srila Prabhupada’s books and organize our travel party.  Rupa was just swimming in all the unsuspected joys available.

The Vaisnava exchanges in Berlin is always very nice.  The devotees are always happy and fired up, and at the same time, they are anxious to have association of outside devotees.  I gave the morning Bhagavatam class, speaking from the Fourth Canto on Prthu Maharaja.  Srila Prabhupada tied into purport the concept of Krsna consciousness, talking about doing everything with Krsna in mind.

We had a Berlin breaky (breakfast), and then spent the day cleaning the asrama and cleaning the heart.  We did some small service and some sadhana.  It was like a break in the fight or the calm in the eye of the storm.  We went to the local shops in the afternoon, just to catch some air and show the boys Germany, but otherwise we spent most of our time in the house of Jagannatha.  In the evening, the boys sparked up a kirtana and then the devotees asked me to give another class.  We talked about the academic and authentic historical context of the Bhagavad-Gita.

Tuesday 21st, June 2011.

I woke up with a cold.   The exhaustion of travelling, rathayatras, birthday celebrations and changing weather had caught me out.  I led the Gurupuja program in a complete tamastic-spastic array.  The boys went out for the day, while I sorted travel trinkets and booked in some recovery time.

In the afternoon, Dylan came to the temple.  Maharaja had invited Dylan for Polish Tour and now she was in Berlin, waiting out for her connection.  We touched base and she shared her inspiring stories of meeting swamis, travelling to India and the general magic carpet ride of Krsna consciousness.

In the midst of full conversation, I realized I needed to rush to the airport.  I dropped out and took the tram, lost myself in Alexander Platz, caught a delayed train to Shchoenefeld Airport and still managed to make it on time.  Varsana Rani and young Parvati (both from Russia and tour veterans) emerged from the terminal, after the usual delay.  I escorted them to the temple, bumping into Gaura Mohana (Govardhanavasi and regular tour goer) on the way in, where my brothers had organized a big pasta feast.  Everyone ate to their hearts’ content and then we helped them find some accommodation.  We set out the meeting times for tomorrow morning and then we all slept, mentally prepared for the big journey to Poland the coming morning.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: PROCESS FOR SUCCESS

Here is a snap-shot of the 4-Part Process for your success:

Step 1: Getting Clear, Grounded, and Focused

Using powerful mantra meditation and visualization, you will get yourself into the state that is needed to truly get in touch with your life’s purpose, and what’s actually of the most importance to you. You will learn to get in touch with the part of you that provides the clarity you need to get what you want out of life.

Step 2: Life Purpose and Passions

Once you are in this powerful state of clarity and peace, you can then move forward to discovering your true life purpose and passions. Identifying, acknowledging, and honoring this purpose is perhaps one of the greatest actions steps successful people take. You will learn to identify what you are truly meant to do, and then pursue that purpose with passion, enthusiasm, and integrity.

Step 3: Strategy, Mastermind, Plan

During Step 3, you will work in small groups to strategize your goals, align them with your purpose and passions, and take part in powerful mastermind sessions. These mastermind sessions will help you garner new ideas, actions strategies, and a plan to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Whether it’s creating more balance in your life, traveling the world as a vagabond entrepreneur, funding a new start-up company, bringing an idea to market — or any other goal — we’ll deliver with rapid-fire enthusiasm the information, advice and know-how you’ll need to get going immediately.

Step 4: Master the Art of Action and Perseverance

Last but not least, we will help you transform into the person who can confidently create, pursue, and maximize your goals. You will learn where you have gotten stuck in the past (you might not even realize you’ve been stuck), and how to strategically release these so-called brakes that have been holding you back. You’ll also learn how to master the art of taking action and persevering in the face of anything that gets in your way of achieving what you want. We’re not going to lie, we all come up against barriers – it’s part of life. It’s knowing how to deal with these obstacles, and how to rise above them that really sets you apart from the rest, which you will learn how to do during the upcoming courses.

Our goal is to give you the tools to achieve what you want to achieve.

This unique life experience is exploratory, transformative, and fun.

Manoj, Melbourne, AU: 218. Srila Prabhupad Lecture Summary 12: Krishna can do everything & anything !

A summary of my understanding of Prabhupad’s lecture today:

5.5.33, Vrindhavan
November 22, 1976

Because Lord Ṛṣabhadeva remained in that condition, the public did not disturb Him, but no bad aroma emanated from His stool and urine. Quite the contrary, His stool and urine were so aromatic that they filled eighty miles of the countryside with a pleasant fragrance.

One can practically check if one who claims to be God is truly a God or not. Ask them to pass stool and see how it smells. It’s a very simple test. Can they do it?

Krishna is God and He can do whatever He wants. A cow dung makes an impure place pure. So, if by Krishna’s grace, the stool of an animal can be so pure, what to speak of Krishna’s stool. Less intelligent people do not know that the body of the Lord and their own body is completely different. Krishna’s body is completely transcendental whereas theirs are made of material elements.

Anyone who understands Krishna is at once liberated. But understanding Him takes time. However, bhakti-yoga is so easy that by simply chanting His names and honoring prasadam, one becomes eligible to understand Krishna.

To understand Krsna, you require your tongue. Generally we understand by seeing or by hearing. Hearing is there, but here it is recommended tongue, especially. Why tongue is used? Because if you simply chant Hare Krsna by your tongue and taste Krsna prasadam, you will understand Krsna. Sevonmukhe hi jihvadau svayam eva sphuraty adah. If you make it a promise that “I shall not talk anything except Krsna’s message,” and if you promise that “I shall not take anything which is not offered to Krsna,” these two things, this prasadam and chanting, will make you perfect to understand Krsna. In another place Krsna says, mayy asakta-manah partha yogam yunjan mad-asrayah. This is yoga, bhakti-yoga. How easy it is. There are so many yogas, but if you practice bhakti-yoga you become first-class yogi.

Also, be careful not to offend a Vaishnava. Even if you offend a Vaishnava, that Vaishnava because of his exalted nature will forgive you but Krishna will remember. He will immediately protect his devotees who are insulted. We can understand this from the story of Dhurvasa Muni who was chased by Sudarshan Chakra because of his insult to Ambarisa Maharaj who was a devotee of the Lord. Dhurvasa muni was a great yogi but he was defeated in front of Ambarisa Maharaj was a devotee.

So, the only way to understand Krishna is by devotional service and not by other yoga methods. If you are working, then you must give up the results of your work to Krishna. This is Karma yoga. You must give your money to Krishna. Otherwise, you will use it to make atom bombs and kill each other.

Engaging people in sankirtan, either in a musical way or by spiritual discussion, people will come to their senses and stop harmful activities; gradually they will become Vaishnavas, so they will be saved from sinful activities and the society will be saved from the harmful activities of rogues and thieves.

Our spiritual strength lies in steadfastly following the regulative principles also, and once stopped, then immediately there is falldown and all that has been accomplished becomes choked up. So to keep ourselves fit in spiritual life, we must strictly follow the principles, and chant at least 16 attentive rounds of beads daily and
without fail. Otherwise, everything else loses its potency.
