ISKCON Melbourne, AU: Today's Darsana

Our chota Gaura Nitai are still jubilant and gleeful from yesterday's festivities. What an abhishek They had! They are still swimming in beatitude of it all. One meditation comes to our mind:

21/03/11
"I worship the incarnations of mercy, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda Prabhu, whose arms extend to Their knees, whose complexions are a resplendent yellow, like molten gold, who inaugurated the sankirtana movement, whose eyes are like large lotus petals, who nourish the entire universe, who appeared in the families of exalted brahmanas, who protect the yuga-dharma, and who bestow the highest auspiciousness upon the residents of the material world."
(Sri Caitanya Bhagavata, Adi lila, 1.1)

So here is the
darsana of these two divine brothers who are jewels of all transcendental qualities.

Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: Vedic Planetarium

...we are planning construction of a very large "Vedic Planetarium" or "Temple of Understanding". Within the planetarium we will construct a huge, detailed model of the universe as described in the text of the fifth canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam. Within the planetarium the model will be studied by onlookers from different levels by use of escalators. Detailed information will be given on open verandas at the different levels by means of dioramas, charts, films, etc. The planetarium is planned to be approximately 400 feet high and will have floor space of approximately 90,000 sq. ft. The model will depict: (from bottom to top) 1) The lower planetary system (pataladi-saptaloka) 2) The earthly system (bhu-mandala with Sumeru in center, seven islands (saptadvipa), seven oceans (sapta-samudra), Manosattara Parvata, Lokaloka Parvata, Alokavarsa. 3) The Bhuvarloka (Siddha-caranadi-loka) 4) The upper planetary system (Svarga loka) beginning from the Sun, showing with electrial apparatus both its horizontal and vertical rotations, Rahu, the Moon, the Naksatras, the other seven planets ending with Saturn (Saniscara), the Saptarsis, and Dhruvaloka with Ksirodakasayi Visnu on the Ksirodaka ocean. 5) Maharloka 6) Janaloka 7) Tapoloka 8) Satyaloka 9) Garbhodakasayi Visnu lying on Sesanaga on the Garbhodaka ocean 10) The seven coverings of the universe 11) Sivaloka 12) Karanarnavasayi visnu lying on the Karana-samudra 13) Impersonal brahmajyoti 14) Vaikunthaloka with the various Visnumurtis 15) Goloka Vrndavana This model (approximately 200 feet high and 100 feet wide) will be engineered to suspend from the structure of the dome and rotate according to the real movement of the planets. The plans for this very large project are being taken solely from the references found in fifth canto Srimad Bhagavatam and its authoritative commentaries by important acaryas, along with other Puranas and Samhitas like Brahma-samhita etc. As you can appreciate, the work involved in this project will be gigantic and the advice of many experts from all fields will be needed to make it come out successful. It will be a glorious exhibition of India's Vedic culture that will attract visitors from all the world.

Kurma dasa, AU: One for the Record

A grand Hare Krishna Rathayatra Parade was held in downtown Sydney on Saturday. But it was an extremely wet day, so I did not attend.

past seva:

Co-incidentally my sister Annie just sent me this photo that she took at a similar Hare Krishna festival 31 years ago in 1980. I am looking very confident, like a young Heston Blumenthal, and my dad is definitely still showing youthful vigour. My mother is wearing a beautiful garland of frangipani blooms straight from the neck of Lord Jagannatha, it seems. I had forgotten, but these things are all recorded nevertheless.

This moment in time will never be repeated, just like the twigs and leaves that come together briefly in the rushing stream of time, and then separate forever.

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: Devamrita Swami, New Vrndavan, Festival of Inspiration - understanding our life in context

As you look at the world situation and your situation within the world situation there is no doubt we should be feeling tremendous opportunity for expanding lord Chaitanya’s movement. That is our heritage, not only our heritage but our dynamics coming through parampara. We are always on the look out for more. What can we do, we are coming in the line of Panchatatva who are always causing things to increase. So therefore if we properly align ourselves with the mission of pancatatva we will also have those expansionary dynamics and certainly Krishna will send the resources to fuel those dynamics. Currently scarcity rules the day when we look at the material situation of the world…Why should be in denial about our expansionary heritage, why should we feel bad about the dynamics given to us by the Panchatatva to always increase. Of course how to expand requires intelligence but we cannot deny we are meant to expand. By the Panchatatva dancing they make it easier to drink nectarean love of Krishna. By our chanting and dancing, the more we chant and dance more we are actually able to taste krishna bhakti. Lets look at scarcity and pancatatve. KK describes that the Pancatatva plundered the storehouse of love of god and distributed it everywhere, yet there is no scarcity. The storehouse of love of krishna is so complete.

Madhava Ghosh dasa, New Vrndavan, USA: .S. Marine Corps Gets Their Biggest Ever Solar Installation

by Tina Casey

1.4 megawatt solar system installed at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

The U.S. Marines recently made news for their innovative use of suitcase-sized portable solar energy systems, and now they’ve gone in the other direction, sizewise, with a new 1.4 megawatt solar array at Camp Pendleton. It’s the largest solar installation at a Marine Corps base, and one of the largest in San Diego County – and it also illustrates how the U.S. military is becoming a powerful green jobs generator.

Green Jobs and the U.S. Marines

The new installation features solar modules from industry leader Kyocera Solar, Inc., which is an offshoot of the Japan-based Kyocera Corporation.  Back-office operations are headquartered in Arizona and California, but the real green jobs story is the company’s new photovoltaic factory in San Diego. The plant opened last June and produced the 6,300 solar modules for the Camp Pendleton system. All together, the system will generate about 2,400 megawatt-hours per year and save the Marine Corps about $336,000 in annual electricity costs.

Camp Pendleton and Sustainability

As reported by Eric Woff of North County Times, Camp Pendleton has become the “epicenter of new green construction.“  One example is a barracks upgraded for efficiency last year, which included replacing an inappropriate lawn with a water-conserving rock/tree garden, dual-flush toilets, Energy Star appliances, extra insulation, and a 50-kW rooftop solar installation among other features. Wolff notes that the base is also constructing water reclamation facilities and installing 1,ooo smart meters.  Back in 2009, Camp Pendleton also made news for its recycling and alternative fuel vehicle programs.

The U.S. Military and Green Jobs

When you put together all that activity and multiply it by military facilities across the U.S., that adds up to a lot of employment for workers in green jobs fields, including geothermal and wind power. The U.S. taxpayer stands to benefit because, as illustrated by Camp Pendleton’s money-saving solar installation, the long term effect is to lower the military’s fuel costs. However, with Congress casting a stinkeye on the military budget, let’s hope those green jobs don’t wind up on the chopping block.

Giridhari das, Brasilia, Brazil: Carnival Yoga Retreat in Pandavas Paradise

Brazil is famous for its Carnival – a very colorful popular celebration of life that happens all over the country, that has been made specially world famous due to Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, the richest and biggest of all the Carnival celebrations. Of course, Carnival is also famous for being a very sexual, very crazy time – lots of booze, lots of scantily clad women, loud music and very lusty men. It’s basically a city-wide party going on simultaneously in every major city of the country. Naturally, because it is so wild, so “carnal”, a select minority of people do their best to avoid all the madness. It’s not surprising, therefore, that Carnival is our most sought after yoga retreat here in Pandavas Paradise.

We had people coming from many different parts of the country, some travelling over 2000km to get here. We had a good mix this time, with two couples (one young, one older), a single male (policeman), which is a rare occurrence in our retreats, and the rest were women (including a med school student, a state prosecutor, a university teacher and an architect).

We invited a lovely devotee couple to help us out – Tulasi and Radharani. They came with their baby daughter, Hladini. Radharani has been the yoga teacher many times in our retreats and guests always tell us how much they like her. Of course Hladini was a big hit!

The guests also went nuts over the prasada, prepared by Carana Renu. They couldn’t believe how good everything was and kept going on about it during the five days of the retreat! They also enjoyed the cooking course held one afternoon.

At night I presented a new lecture, on Maya. Finally, after all these years giving lectures about Krishna consciousness, I could speak on something which I truly understand! No, but seriously, I noticed that it’s important to present “the problem” more clearly, before presenting the solution.  In other words, instead of just jumping in by explaining what the path of self-realization in yoga is, I realize now it’s important to emphasize why a person should want to take it up in the first place.

Though it’s the rainy season, the weather held out nicely, and we had several great walks and a great time at our waterfalls.

A more dedicated group of the guests came everyday for japa and our mangala aratik, but all of them participated in the evening aratiks. Most guests bought books (printed and audiobooks in CDs) in the end.

Here are some comments left by the guests:

“This was really one of the most important moments in my life, in all regards… I go back home with the certainty that the soul’s greatest obligation in this life, aside from love, is self-realization… Thank you very much for everything!!!” –Antonio, Brasília-DF

“Pandavas Paradise has left me with longing… EVERYTHING was good there… the people, the place so full of peace, the delicious food, the yoga classes, the mantras, the waterfalls, the walks, the sharing of life experiences and the teachings… My gratitude, care and longing! See you soon!” – Gisele, Belém-PA

“I’m still feeling a profound sense of inner peace. Even if destiny does not allow us to meet you all again, believe me, you have left a permanent impression in me. Hare Krishna!” – Paulo Cesar, Miguel Pereira-RJ

“Though we only spent five days there, they will never be erased from our minds, because our perception was so uniquely changed. We learned that life is lost in the whirlpool of superficial life, to the detriment of true “being”. And through introspection we forgot this superficial existence, and through meditation, mantras and the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita, we experienced our “soul consciousness”. In this state we return to our regular lives with the firm conviction that life is a long road and that we should share our love while we travel.” – Eliana, Palmas – TO

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami (Ret.): 255—Poem for March 20

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

5:46 A.M.
A Writer of Pieces

New format—I will begin with a poem written on the day of its printing. Then I will print random excerpts of books I have printed over the last 30 years. I hope this variety will be pleasing.

Poem for March 20

We had our village celebration
of Gaura Purnima
in our house. All the chairs
removed to make more
room for twenty adults and twelve children
including the two newest superstar infants
and the two twelve-year-old girls with long
legs, tight pants and long hair braiding
and the rowdy five-year-old boys
sprawling and fighting on the floor
and many respectable adults listening
to the Swami tell biographical sketch
of the entire Gaura-lila. The
girls were braiding their hair in front
of him and he aptly said Lord Caitanya
made everyone sad by cutting His hair,
how would you feel if you had to
shave your hair? “I would cry,”
Subhadra said, and Clare looked at
me seriously innocently as if to say,
“You wouldn’t do that.”

I led the chant in a steady
voice, not fearful that they would
think the monotony of my same
tune boring but pushing on
in a bhava that they responded
to strongly all looking up to me
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna for forty
minutes holding the tune.

While in the kitchen they prepared the plates, and I watched them
do it, until finally he came
out and told me you can stop now and we’ll distribute
sweet rice, pakoras, karela wheels,
spinach and many things and drinks.

It was a free spirit village
festival. Our little community
turned out strong mixing,
talking among themselves
while they were eating.

They said my lecture was
good and kirtana, and afterwards
I stayed and talked singly
to individuals about their
lives, struggles and progress,
a nice day at Stuyvesant
Falls held in our house.

Japa Walks Japa Talks (1994)

All this analyzing, trying to ascertain, “how good or bad is my japa?” I imagine a simple Gaudiya Vaisnava villager in India walking and chanting year after year without analysing his performance. Maybe we westerners are forced to think like this. If so, let’s put it to good use. How can we improve our chanting?

Part of me wanted to be that villager today, though. I left the house five minutes earlier than usual and saw the sky dark up past the schoolhouse where Prabhupada dasa had the light on. I knew he was up chanting. Were those faint raindrops I felt? My walking stick click-clicked, and my fingers worked a softer clicking on my beads as they dropped one by one into my beadbag. Everything was complete in my walking and chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare. Was my performance good or bad? I don’t know, and I didn’t ask. I just chanted.

This morning is stood on the little bridge and looked down into the rushing creek. I heard the water over the rocks chanting and I thought, “Should I really try to answer more questions about japa?” I felt reluctant to go to the discursive level, and I was also afraid of presumption. I wanted to stay a simple villager, or even as simple as water running over rocks. I wanted to chant unconsciously, the way water flows down rocks or the way breath goes in and out without conscious effort.

Yoga of Ecology, Bhakta Chris, USA: No Face, But Plants Like Life Too

Click here to read the full article from the New York Times

If you think about it, though, why would we expect any organism to lie down and die for our dinner? Organisms have evolved to do everything in their power to avoid being extinguished. How long would any lineage be likely to last if its members effectively didn’t care if you killed them?

Maybe the real problem with the argument that it’s O.K. to kill plants because they don’t feel exactly as we do, though, is that it’s the same argument used to justify what we now view as unforgivable wrongs.

Slavery and genocide have been justified by the assertion that some kinds of people do not feel pain, do not feel love — are not truly human — in the same way as others. The same thinking has led to other practices less drastic but still appalling. For example, physicians once withheld anesthetics from infants during surgery because it was believed that these not-quite-yet-humans did not feel pain (smiles were gas, remember).

Yet even as we shake our heads over the past, we continue to fight about where to draw the line around our tribe of those deemed truly human. We argue over whether those who love others of the same gender deserve full human rights. We ask the same about fetal humans.

The dinner menu pushes us further still. Do other species of animal deserve our consideration? Do plants? Fungi? Microbes?

Maybe this seems all nonsense to you. Perhaps you’re having trouble equating a radish to a lamb to a person whose politics you hate to your beloved firstborn. It’s not surprising. It is reliably difficult for us to accept new members into our tribe, the more so the less like us they seem. It can be infinitely inconvenient to take the part of every individual we come across, to share with it that most precious of commodities: compassion.

What should we have for dinner tonight? Who knows?

Ed:The Hindu/Vedic cultural perspective provides a potential answer to the issues raised in this article. Check out this excerpt from the vegetarian cookbook A Higher Taste:

Another common metaphysical question is, "If all living entities are spiritually equal, then why is it acceptable to eat grains, vegetables, etc., and not meat? Aren't vegetarians guilty of killing vegetables?" In response, it may be pointed out that vegetarian foods such as fruits, nuts, milk, and grains do not require any killing. But even in those cases where a plant's life is taken, the pain involved is much less than when an animal is slaughtered, because the plant's nervous system is less developed. Clearly there is a vast difference between pulling a carrot out of the ground and killing a lamb. But still, one must undoubtedly suffer karmic reactions even for killing plants.

For this reason, Lord Krsna explains in Bhagavad-gita that not only should man eat only vegetarian foods, but he should also offer these eatables to Him. If we follow this process of sacrifice, the Supreme Lord Krsna, protects us from any karmic reactions resulting from the killing of plants. Otherwise, according to the law of karma, we are personally responsible. The Gita states, "The devotees of the Lord are released from all sins because they eat food that is offered first for sacrifice. Others, who prepare food for personal sense enjoyment, verily eat only sin."

Srila Prabhupada elaborates on this principle of spiritual vegetarianism. "Human beings are provided with food grains, vegetables, fruits, and milk by the grace of the Lord, but it is the duty of human beings to acknowledge the mercy of the Lord. As a matter of gratitude, they should feel obliged to the Lord for their supply of foodstuff, and they must first offer Him food in sacrifice and then partake of the remnants." By eating such sanctified food-prasadam-one is protected from karmic reactions and advances spiritually.

Subhavilasa das ACBSP, Toronto, CA: Celebrating Anandotsava of Sri Jagannath Mishra!

Picture
What a great gift Srila Prabhupada has given us with so many festivals. Today is the anandotsava of Sri Jagannath Mishra and in many Vaisnava calendars it is listed as "Festival of Sri Jagannath Mishra".
After yesterday's fasting and feasting, today is for feasting and celebration for baby Nimai and Jata karma samskara of Nimai (Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabu).

Great benefit can be recieved by meditating on baby Nimai being held by Mother Sachi and Sri Jaggannath Misra and reading the Chaitanya Charitamrta Adi Lila describing the advent and  childhood pastimes of Chaitanya.

(Editor's note: There are more notes provided by my dad (Subhavilasa das) including C.C. references , however I will need to edit this post or provide an additional post later on today or tomorrow with this nectar. Barely got my rounds done and already running late for a book distribution engagement and rushing though the post. As ususal forgive me for typos as well...I am sure there are a few every day as I transcribe notes and try to squeeze the posts in).

“YOGAPITHA”

THE APPEARANCE PLACE OF LORD SRI CAITANYA MAHAPRABHU (NIMAI)

AT “SRI ANTARDVIPA” ISLAND OF SRI NAVADVIPA-MAYAPUR DHAMA

Antardvipa:

“Antar” means ‘secret’ and ‘dvipa’ means ‘island’, and this island is where Lord Krishna revealed His internal secret feelings about His future appearance as Lord Caitanya.

Yogapitha:

Yogapitha is the actual site of Lord Caitanya’s appearance. In 1893, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura established this site. He personally collected funds to purchase this land and built a small temple here. This was completed in 1906 at which time he installed the Deities of Gaura-Narayana and His two wives, Laksmipriya & Visnupriya. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s son and spiritual successor, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, built the present Temple in 1934. It was inaugurated on Gaura-Purnima day in 1935.

APPEARANCE OF LORD CAITANYA

It was 1486 in the month of Phalguna (Feb-Mar) and Navadvipa-Mayapur vibrated with tumultuous sound of chanting of “HARI! HARI!” which penetrated the entire material universe and heralded the appearance of Supreme Personality of Godhead.

It was lunar eclipse and everyone, even the most impious and atheists who had never chanted the name of Krishna, found themselves going to Ganga and chanting “HARI! HARI!” as if compelled by some imperceptible force.

By His own sweet will, the Supreme Lord, who incarnated as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to inaugurate Harinam Sankirtan movement, appeared in the midst of the loud chanting of His own names:

HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE

HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE

Nilambara Cakravarti, Sachimata’s father, saw 32 divine symbols on the body of his grandson. He read astrological calculations for the time of birth but became more overwhelmed the more he tried to explain the unlimited glories he saw in the chart. An elevated saintly person was present dressed as brahmana.

He predicted, “This child is the Supreme Lord, Narayana Himself. He will establish the essence of all religion. He will initiate a wonderful preaching movement and deliver the whole world. Even stubborn atheists will worship His feet.”

Sachimata named her new son Nimai because He was born under a neem tree.

The ladies named Him Gaurahari because of His beautiful golden complexion.

And His father named Him Gauranga.

When Nimai was six months old, Sachimata noticed divine signs on His lotus feet. Seeing this Nilambara Cakravarti immediately called all brahmanas and held a festival for Nimai’s nama-karana (name-giving) ceremony. Recalling extraordinary predictions in his grandson’s chart, he said, “In the future this child will protect and maintain the whole world. For this reason He is to be called Visvambhara.”

SCENARIO BEFORE THE APPEARANCE OF LORD CAITANYA

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, propagated the essence of all religion for the age of Kali – congregational chanting of Lord Hari’s holy name: “HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE / HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE”. Accompanied by His associates, He appeared in Kali-yuga simply to establish the religious practice of congregational chanting.

According to His desire, His eternal associates appeared before Him, taking birth as humans. Ananta Sesa, Siva, Brahma, the sages, and other associates of the Lord all took birth as highly elevated, pure Vaishnavas. Lord Caitanya, Krishna, knew everyone’s position and identity. Most of them took birth in Navadvipa, yet some were born in Orissa, and others in the west. All these associates appeared in different places, but everyone met in Navadvipa-Mayapur. The village Ekachakra is in the Radhadesa district of Bengal. The Supreme Lord Nityananda made His appearance there. Lord Nityananda is an ocean of mercy, the shelter of all Vaishnavas and the giver of devotion.

By goddess Sarasvati’s grace, residents of Navadvipa of all different ages were learned exponents of the scriptures. The people were proud of their material knowledge. Residents mostly wasted their time spending money for sense pleasures and other worldly affairs. As they grew prouder and more materialistic, people’s tastes for devotional service to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna decreased alarmingly, and in the beginning of Kali-yuga they exhibited the qualities of the future. They squandered large sums on the marriages of their sons and daughters, and in this way they wasted their human life.

Even the so-called learned high priests did not know the purpose of the scriptures. Nobody was engaged in explaining the imports of congregational chanting of Lord Krishna’s holy name- “the religion of Kali-yuga” – they spent their time simply finding faults in others. As for the superstitious so-called renunciates and hermits, not a single name of God ever escaped their mouths. Those considered most pious in society were heard repeating the Lord’s name Govinda only once at the time of daily ablution. Devotional perspectives were invariably absent in explaining transcendental literatures like Bhagavad-Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

The devotees of the Lord became distressed seeing the mass of people engrossed in material existence under the external energy of the Lord. How can all these living entities be liberated? They are completely mesmerized by the myth of sense pleasures. Although people were requested to chant Krishna’s holy name, they refused and instead they foolishly busied themselves acquiring fruitless material knowledge.

The elevated Vaishnavas continued their devotional activities by worshiping Lord Sri Krishna, and discussing Krishna conscious topics. They became moved to benedict humanity and prayed that Lord Krishna would quickly shower His mercy upon them.

Foremost of the great Vaishnavas in Navadvipa was Sri Advaita Acarya. He was a preeminent spiritual preceptor and exponent on knowledge of the absolute science of devotion and renunciation. His delineation of Krishna conscious topics equalled Lord Siva’s. On all existing scriptures His explanations arrived at the same conclusion-the essence of everything is devotion to Lord Krishna’s lotus feet.

Advaita Acarya constantly worshiped Lord Krishna with great devotion, offering Him tulasi blossoms and Ganges water. His intense attachment for Lord Krishna made him resound in loud exaltation, and the sound penetrated the coverings of the material world. In that manner Advaita Acarya spent His days in Navadvipa, where He suffered acute pain at the sight of persons bereft of devotional service. He had a very compassionate nature, He was always thinking of how to liberate the conditioned souls.

If My Lord descends, He can liberate everyone. I can boast of being an incarnation of Lord Maha-Visnu only if I can convince the Lord of Vaikuntha, Krishna, to appear in this world. And when that Lord of Vaikuntha descends in person, I shall sing and dance in joy and liberate all the conditional souls.” Considering matters in this way, He constantly worshiped the lotus feet of Krishna with undeviating resolve.

Each one of the magnanimous devotees executed his spiritual duties and knew nothing besides devotional service to Krishna. They were unaware of their own spiritual identities (svarupa), yet they mixed intimately as confidential friends. Wherever they looked they saw a world devoid of devotion, and their hearts were burning with sorrow. They found no one with any taste for the nectar of Lord Krishna’s pastimes, so they simply glorified the Lord amongst themselves. The devotees would gather together for several hours in Sri Advaita Acarya’s residence discussing topics of Lord Krishna, and in this manner they dispelled their grief. The devotees saw the world burning in the flames of material existence, and there was no place to discuss topics of Krishna consciousness. This caused them great sorrow.

Sri Advaita Acarya and the other Vaishnavas tried to make the people God conscious, but not a soul appreciated them.

Stricken with grief due to people’s suffering, Sri Advaita Acarya began fasting, and the Vaishnavas sighed deeply at the situation. “Why sing and dance for Krishna? What is the meaning of congregational chanting of the Lord’s holy name? Who are the Vaishnavas?” Gross materialistic people running after wealth and family do not comprehend any of these things. Indeed such atheists only taunt and laugh at the Vaishnavas.

As evening descended, Srivasa Thakura and His three brothers would loudly sing the Lord’s name in their house. The atheistic neighbours vilified Srivasa Thakura, pronouncing him mad. They declared that the entire village would be destroyed because of him. The tyrannical Muslim rulers would tear the village apart if they heard people loudly chanting God’s name. Some envious neighbours said they would break down Srivasa Thakura’s house and float it down the river in order to get rid of him.

Someone said, “Only when Srivasa Thakura leaves will the village be peaceful again. Otherwise the Muslim rulers will torture us.”

When the saintly Vaishnavas heard such threats from the atheists they simply wept and revealed their sorrow to Lord Krishna. Sri Advaita Acarya burned with rage on hearing this news, and, unconcerned with His undressed state, He addressed the Vaishnavas in these words, “Listen Srivasa, Gangadasa, and Suklambara. I shall make Lord Krishna appear before everyone’s eyes. Lord Krishna will come personally and liberate everyone. He will take you with Him, and we will all teach the atheists love of Godhead. And if I fail to keep My promise, I shall manifest My four-handed form and take up the disc. I shall sever the heads of all the atheists. Then will it be accepted that Lord Krishna is My Lord and master and I am His proper servitor.”

Sri Advaita Acarya continually spoke in this way, and He worshiped the lotus feet of Lord Krishna with a solemn vow. All the devotees also worshiped Lord Krishna’s lotus feet with great attention and continuous tears.

Sri Jagannatha Misra, the transcendental personality, resided in Navadvipa, and like Vasudeva, Lord Krishna’s father, He was always engaged in spiritual activities. He was magnanimous and possessed the best of all brahminical qualities. His dedicated wife, Srimati Sachidevi, was the embodiment of devotion to the Supreme Lord. She was the universal mother. All her eight daughters passed away, and she was left with one greatly fortunate son, Visvarupa. Sri Visvarupa was as beautiful and charming as Cupid and the source of joy for His parents. From birth Sri Visvarupa was renounced, and in His childhood He mastered the different scriptures.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: HOW TO CREATE ABUNDANCE IN YOUR FAMILY LIFE

An ideal husband and wife are generally called Laksmi-Narayana to compare them to the Lord and the goddess of fortune, for it is significant that Laksmi-Narayana are forever happy as husband and wife.

A wife should always remain satisfied with her husband, and a husband should always remain satisfied with his wife.

In the Canakya-sloka, the moral instructions of Canakya Pandita, it is said that if a husband and wife are always satisfied with one another, then the goddess of fortune automatically comes.

In other words, where there is no disagreement between husband and wife, all material opulence is present, and good children are born.

Generally, according to Vedic civilization, the wife is trained to be satisfied in all conditions, and the husband, according to Vedic instruction, is required to please the wife with sufficient food, ornaments and clothing.

Then, if they are satisfied with their mutual dealings, good children are born.

In this way the entire world can become peaceful ...

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: Magic from the Palace of Gold

I met this 21 year old boy standing outside Urbanedgeyoga and showed him the perfection of yoga. He was speaking about how he is interested in Budhism etc and I showed him a picture of Srila Prabhupada explaining how he is a monk. Seeing Srila Prabhupada’s picture he immediately recognized and asked if this was the same person who had a shrine in West Virginia. I was quiet shocked and asked him how he knew about it. He explained how he was interested in the Hare Krishnas and had followed his friends to the farm once. I showed him the Bhagavad gita and he read off the mantras. He was very interested in the philosophy and I asked him to try out the Bhagavad gita – he was super interested and took a small book. I taught him how to say Gauranga and explained it meant be happy – he looked smiling and said he would practice it and come back. This is the email he sent me :
hello mangalarti. just got home and received this email. i did a bit of browsing through the book you gave me and i am certainly going to give it a read. its funny that i recognized the photo of srila prabhupada from his replica in west virgina. whats the proper name for the temple? anyways talk to you soon and gauranga!

Bharatavarsa.net: Book distribution seminar: Sankirtana anyplace, anytime!

Hare krsna Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

My wife Bhaktin Shannon and I were moving from our base in Arkansas to New Vrindavan. After a few hours of driving, we decided to take a break and take advantage of a local mall in the suburbs of St. Louis to distribute some books and Prasadam. It was 9pm. We noticed most of the people were milling around the Starbucks on the corner. We struck up a conversation with the two ladies behind the counter, mentioning how we like to cook and share what we make with others. The conversation evolved into Krsna conscious philosophy and the New Vrindavan community.

They were excited to accept a variety of cookies, sweet balls & books. They even offered to give us free drinks. While Teresa set us up with some hot milk, Faith offered us a $10 donation for a Higher Taste, Intro to Gita, and Krsna, Reservoir of Pleasure pamphlet. We then offered another set of books to Teresa, who offered us $6. Upon returning to the car, we wanted to share with them some special Prasadam we had prepared, so Shannon brought that to them and Faith donated another $10. We took their emails and immediately wrote to them once we got in the car (thanks to the iPhone). The combination of their mood, their names, & the blissful exchange enlivened us on our journey. There are generous people everywhere in the world waiting for devotees to approach them with Prasadam & books. Just stop by your local mall or anywhere else and share the mercy!
